The Phillies have led Box-Toppers team rankings weekly reports since April 25 and have now led 21 of the 24 weekly reports this season, missing only the first three weeks. One week is left in the season.

The Phillies are led by pitcher Zack Wheeler (21.4 points, first overall). Phillies top batter is Bryce Harper (8.7 points, fourth among NL batters). Twenty-three different Phillies players have earned Box-Toppers points in 2024.

Yankees lead AL teams

The New York Yankees lead American League teams for the second week with 114.2 Box-Toppers points, picking up 4.5 in the past week. They fall from third to fourth overall.

They lead over the second-place AL team, the Kansas City Royals (110.6 points, picking up 2.0 in the past week, falling from fourth to fifth overall).

The Yankees have the best winning percentage among AL teams (.582), third among all teams, behind the Phillies (.595) and Dodgers (.595).

The Yankees are led by pitcher Luis Gil (17.4 points, sixth overall and second among AL pitchers). Yankees top batter is Aaron Judge (13.0 points, first among AL batters). Twenty-six different Yankees players have earned Box-Toppers points in 2024.

Hottest team: Padres

The San Diego Padres are the week’s hottest team, picking up 7.4 Box-Toppers points in the past week, most of any team. The Padres now have 115.8 Box-Toppers points in 2024, rising from fifth to third place overall and also third among NL teams behind the Phillies (119.4) and Brewers (116.5). Their two-spot rise in Box-Toppers rankings is also the biggest jump of any team.

The Padres have 9.6 more Box-Toppers points than the Dodgers (106.9) even though they trail Los Angeles by four games in the NL West Division.

Biggest fall: Orioles

The Baltimore Orioles had the biggest fall in Box-Toppers team rankings this week, dropping six spots from sixth to 12th place with 99.8 points, with a net loss of 6.0 points in the past week.

While the Orioles won two of their six games this week, picking up 3.0 Box-Toppers points, they unloaded two players with a combined 9.0 Box-Toppers points in 2024, resulting in the 6.0-point net loss. The Orioles waived pitcher Cole Irvin (3.0 points), who was claimed by the Minnesota Twins. They also designated for assignment closing pitcher Craig Kimbrel, who had earned 6.0 Box-Toppers points with the Orioles in 2024, which was second among AL closing pitchers. However, Kimbrel earned those points July 7 and before and had struggled recently.

Division leaders displaced

There are two division leaders who do not lead their division in Box-Toppers points:

  • The Cleveland Guardians lead the AL Central, 6.5 games ahead of the Kansas City Royals. But the Guardians rank 11th with 102.8 points, 5.1 points behind the fifth-ranked Royals.

  • The Los Angeles Dodgers lead the NL West, four games ahead of the San Diego Padres. But the Dodgers rank ninth with 106.2 points, 9.6 points behind the third-ranked Padres. The Dodgers are third among NL West teams in Box-Toppers points, also trailing the Arizona Diamondbacks (106.9), who they lead by six games in standings.

Last place: White Sox

The Chicago White Sox remain in 30th and last place for the 16th week with 31.6 Box-Toppers points, picking up 3.7 points in the past week.

About Box-Toppers

Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. In regular season games, players earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
