The Philadelphia Phillies lead Box-Toppers team rankings for the 20th straight week.

Here are Box-Toppers 2024 team rankings through games of Thursday, Sept. 12. The column BTP shows the number of Box-Toppers points players on the team accumulated this season. The column BTP/wk shows have many points teams accumulated from Sept. 6 to Sept. 12. The column Wk ago shows the team's rank as of Sept. 5.

Meanwhile, the New York Yankees—the week’s hottest team—pass the Baltimore Orioles, rising to regain the lead among American League teams.

Phillies lead

Phillies players have accumulated 116.4 Box-Toppers points this season, picking up 4.5 points in the past week. The Phillies lead over the second-place Milwaukee Brewers (111.0 points) by 6.4 points. The Phillies lead over the top AL team, the New York Yankees (109.7 points, third overall) by 6.7 points.

The Phillies have baseball’s best winning percentage (.603) and have led Box-Toppers team rankings weekly reports since April 25 and have now led 20 of the 23 weekly reports this season, missing only the first three weeks. Two weeks are left in the season.

The Phillies are led by pitcher Zack Wheeler (20.4 points, first overall). Phillies top batter is Bryce Harper (7.7 points, fifth among NL batters). Twenty-three different Phillies players have earned Box-Toppers points in 2024.

Yankees lead AL teams

The New York Yankees pass the Baltimore Orioles to regain the lead among AL teams.

Yankees players have accumulated 109.7 Box-Toppers points in 2024, picking up 6.7 points in the past week, most of any team. The Yankees rise from fifth to third place overall. The Orioles fall from fourth to sixth place overall with 105.8 points, picking up 2.0 points in the past week and now rank third among AL teams, behind the Yankees and the Kansas City Royals (fourth overall with 108.6 points).

The Orioles gained 6.7 points in five wins this week (with players winning overall Player of the Day honors once and AL Player of the Day honors once).

The Yankees have the best winning percentage among AL teams (.578), third among all teams, behind the Phillies (.603) and the Los Angeles Dodgers (.596). The Dodgers fall from ninth to 10th in Box-Toppers team rankings with 101.2 points, picking up 3.0 in the past week.

The Yankees are led by pitcher Luis Gil (17.4 points, sixth overall and second among AL pitchers). Yankees top batter is Aaron Judge (12.0 points, first among AL batters). Twenty-six different Yankees players have earned Box-Toppers points in 2024.

Biggest jump: Yankees, Royals, Diamondbacks

Three teams each jumped two spots in Box-Toppers team rankings, tied for the biggest rise this week:

  • The Yankees rose from fifth to third place with 109.7 points, picking up 6.7 in the past week.

  • The Kansas City Royals rose from sixth to fourth place with 108.6 points, picking up 5.7 in the past week.

  • The Arizona Diamondbacks rose from 11th to ninth place with 102.4 points, picking up 5.2 in the past week.

Biggest fall: Padres

The San Diego Padres had the biggest fall in Box-Toppers team rankings this week, dropping three spots from second to fifth place with 108.4 points, picking up 2.0 in the past week.

Last place: White Sox

The Chicago White Sox remain in 30th and last place for the 15th week with 27.9 Box-Toppers points, picking up 1.0 point in the past week.

Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. Players earn Box-Toppers points for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
