The Philadelphia Phillies lead Box-Toppers team rankings for the 19th straight week.

Here are Box-Toppers 2024 team rankings through games of Thursday, Sept. 5. The column BTP shows the number of Box-Toppers points players on the team accumulated this season. The column BTP/wk shows have many points teams accumulated from Aug. 30 to Sept. 5. The column Wk ago shows the team's rank as of Aug. 29.

Meanwhile, the Baltimore Orioles—the week’s hottest team—pass the New York Yankees, rising to regain the lead among American League teams.

Phillies lead

Phillies players have accumulated 111.9 Box-Toppers points this season, picking up 6.2 points in the past week. The Phillies lead over the second-place San Diego Padres (106.4 points) by 5.5 points. The Phillies lead over the top AL team, the Baltimore Orioles (103.8 points, fourth overall) by 8.1 points.

The Phillies are tied with the Los Angeles Dodgers for baseball’s best winning percentage (.600). The Dodgers rank ninth in Box-Toppers team rankings and sixth among NL teams with 98.2 points, picking up 4.5 points in the past week.

The Phillies have led Box-Toppers team rankings weekly reports since April 25 and have now led 19 of the 22 weekly reports this season, missing only the first three weeks. Three weeks are left in the season.

The Phillies are led by pitcher Zack Wheeler (18.4 points, second overall and second among NL pitchers). Phillies top batter is Bryce Harper (7.7 points, fourth among NL batters). Twenty-three different Phillies players have earned Box-Toppers points in 2024 (and they are listed here).

Orioles lead AL teams

The Baltimore Orioles pass the New York Yankees to regain the lead among AL teams.

Orioles players have accumulated 103.8 Box-Toppers points in 2024, picking up 7.5 points in the past week, most of any team. The Orioles rise from sixth to fourth place overall, trailing three NL teams—the Phillies (111.9), the Padres (106.4) and the Milwaukee Brewers (106.0).

The Orioles pass the Yankees, who fall to second among AL teams and fall from third to fifth overall with 103.0 points, picking up 2.5 in the past week.

The Orioles gained 6.5 points in four wins this week (with players winning overall Player of the Day honors twice and AL Batter of the Day honors once). They also signed pitcher Adrian Houser to a minor league deal. He earned 1.0 point earlier this season with the Mets.

The Orioles have the best winning percentage among AL teams (.574), fourth among all teams.

The Orioles are led by pitcher Corbin Burnes (8.7 points, 58th overall and 26th among AL pitchers). Orioles top batter is Ryan Mountcastle (8.0 points, fourth among AL batters). Thirty-three different Orioles players have earned Box-Toppers points in 2024 (and they are listed here.)

Biggest jump: Mets

The New York Mets made the biggest jump in Box-Toppers team rankings this week, rising three spots from 11th last week to eighth this week with 98.4 Box-Toppers points, picking up 7.2 in the past week.

Biggest fall: Diamondbacks

The Arizona Diamondbacks had the biggest fall in Box-Toppers team rankings this week, dropping three spots from eighth to 11th place with 97.2 points, picking up 3.0 in the past week.

Last place: White Sox

The Chicago White Sox remain in 30th and last place for the 14th week with 26.9 Box-Toppers points, picking up 1.0 point in the past week.

Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. Players earn Box-Toppers points for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
