Phillies’ Box-Toppers team rankings lead narrows as Yankees gain ground

The Philadelphia Phillies lead Box-Toppers team rankings for the seventh straight week.

Here are Box-Toppers 2024 final team rankings through games of Thursday, June 6. The column BTP shows the number of Box-Toppers points players on the team accumulated this season. The column BTP/wk shows have many points teams accumulated from May 31 to June 6. The column Wk ago shows the team's rank as of May 30.

Meanwhile, the New York Yankees continue to lead American League teams and the Cincinnati Reds are the week’s hottest team.

Phillies lead

Phillies players have accumulated 58.3 Box-Toppers points this season, picking up 6.3 points in the past week. Their lead over the second-place Yankees (55.9 points) has narrowed from 4.2 points last week to 2.4 points this week. The Phillies lead National League teams ahead of the second-place Atlanta Braves (seventh place overall with 45.0 points).

The Phillies have baseball’s second-best winning percentage (.698) behind the Yankees (.703), slipping from first place last week.

The Phillies are led by pitcher Ranger Suarez (9.4 points, fourth overall and second among NL pitchers). Phillies top batter is Bryson Stott (4.5 points, fifth among NL batters). Fourteen different Phillies players have earned Box-Toppers points so far in 2024.

Yankees lead AL teams

The New York Yankees lead AL teams in Box-Toppers rankings for the fourth straight week with 55.9 points, picking up 8.2 in the past week, holding steady in second place overall.

They rank ahead of the second-place AL team, the Baltimore Orioles (third place overall with 47.9 points).

The Yankees have baseball’s best winning percentage (.703) and are led by pitcher Luis Gil (13.4 points, first overall). Yankees top batter is Juan Soto (7.0 points, first among AL batters). Sixteen different Yankees players have earned Box-Toppers points so far in 2024.

Hottest team: Reds

The Cincinnati Reds are the week’s hottest team, picking up 8.2 points in the past week, tied with the Yankees for most among all teams, rising from 25th to 16th in team rankings with 35.4 points. Their nine-spot rise in rankings is the biggest jump among all teams.

The Reds won six of their seven games this week.

Biggest fall: Nationals

The Washington Nationals had the biggest decline in rankings, falling seven spots from 16th to 23rd with 32.4 points, picking up 1.0 point in the past week. (Last week, the Nationals made the biggest jump in rankings, up six spots from 22nd to 16th.)

Last place: White Sox

The Chicago White Sox remain in 30th and last place for the second week with 19.6 Box-Toppers points, picking up no points in the past week. The White Sox have lost 14 straight games.

Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. Players earn Box-Toppers points for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
