Phillies lead Box-Toppers team rankings for 8th week, Yankees maintain AL lead

The Philadelphia Phillies lead Box-Toppers team rankings for the eighth straight week.

Here are Box-Toppers 2024 final team rankings through games of Thursday, June 13. The column BTP shows the number of Box-Toppers points players on the team accumulated this season. The column BTP/wk shows have many points teams accumulated from June 7 to June 13. The column Wk ago shows the team's rank as of June 6.

Meanwhile, the New York Yankees continue to lead American League teams and the Baltimore Orioles are the week’s hottest team.

Phillies lead

Phillies players have accumulated 61.8 Box-Toppers points this season, picking up 3.5 points in the past week. They lead over the second-place Yankees (58.9 points) by 2.9 points. The Phillies lead National League teams ahead of the second-place Los Angeles Dodgers (fifth place overall with 50.3 points).

The Phillies have baseball’s second-best winning percentage (.676) behind the Yankees (.690). They are  led by pitcher Zack Wheeler (9.7 points, second overall and first among NL pitchers). Phillies top batter is Bryce Harper (5.2 points, second among NL batters). Fifteen different Phillies players have earned Box-Toppers points so far in 2024.

Yankees lead AL teams

The New York Yankees lead AL teams in Box-Toppers rankings for the fifth straight week with 58.9 points, picking up 3.0 in the past week, holding steady in second place overall.

They rank ahead of the second-place AL team, the Baltimore Orioles (third place overall with 55.4 points).

The Yankees have baseball’s best winning percentage (.690) and are led by pitcher Luis Gil (13.4 points, first overall). Yankees top batter is Aaron Judge (8.5 points, first among AL batters). Sixteen different Yankees players have earned Box-Toppers points so far in 2024.

Hottest team: Orioles

The Baltimore Orioles are the week’s hottest team, picking up 7.5 points in the past week, most among all teams, holding steady in third place overall.

The Orioles won six of their seven games this week.

Biggest jump: Cardinals and Nationals

The St. Louis Cardinals and Washington Nationals both had the biggest rise in Box-Toppers team rankings, each rising five spots. The Cardinals rose from 21st to 16th place with 38.5 points, picking up 5.4 in the past week. The Nationals rose from 23rd to 18th place with 37.9 points, picking up 5.5 in the past week.

This is the third straight week the Nationals have whipsawed up and down Box-Toppers team rankings. Two weeks ago, they had the biggest jump in rankings (from 22nd to 16th) and last week, they had the biggest fall (from 16th to 23rd).

Biggest fall: Rays

The Tampa Bay Rays had the biggest decline in rankings, falling eight spots from 15th to 23rd with 35.2 points, with a net loss of 0.5 points in the past week. The Rays gained 2.0 Box-Toppers points, winning two of their seven games this week, but released Harold Ramirez, who had earned 2.5 points with the team this season, most among all Rays batters. His points were deducted from the team total, resulting in the 0.5-point loss.

Last place: White Sox

The Chicago White Sox remain in 30th and last place for the third week with 23.1 Box-Toppers points, picking up 3.5 points in the past week.

Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. Players earn Box-Toppers points for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
