Most career points among free agents

Three of the top four players on Box-Toppers “all-time” career points list have the most career points among all 2024 free agents.

Clayton Kershaw has 272.4 career Box-Toppers points, the most among 2024 free agents and second-most since 1995 when Box-Toppers tracking began. He trails only Randy Johnson’s 282.5 points. (It should be noted that Johnson began his career in 1988, before the advent of Box-Toppers tracking. If his entire career were tracked, rough projections put his Box-Toppers point total at 380.) Kershaw leads active players in career points.

Kershaw earned only 2.0 Box-Toppers points in 2024 as he battled injury for much of the season. He has said he will re-sign with the Dodgers for 2025.

Max Scherzer has the second-most career points among 2024 free agents with 253.7, third-most since 1995 and second among active players.

Justin Verlander has the third-most career points among 2024 free agents with 247.0, fourth-most since 1995 and third among active players.

All three of these players earned only 2.0 points each in 2024 as they battled injury and, frankly, age. Kershaw is 36, Scherzer is 40 and Verlander is 41.

Here is a look at other top free-agent players based on their career Box-Toppers point total. The top 25 players with the most career Box-Toppers points are listed in the chart.
