Rankings

Diamondbacks pitcher Zac Gallen rises from eighth to seventh place in Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors Sunday.

Gallen (6IP 3H 0R 2BB 8K W in the 7-1 win over the Yankees) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 16.7 for the season. He ranks fourth among NL pitchers.

Gallen just missed earning overall Player of the Day honors, which would have given him 2.0 Box-Toppers points for the day rather than 1.0. He had a +9.0 Box-Toppers game score, same as overall Player of the Day, Phillies pitcher Cristopher Sanchez. But Sanchez beat him on a tiebreaker because he had more innings pitched Sunday—seven vs. six.

Notable

Tigers pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez now has 12.0 Box-Toppers points—24th among all players and 12th among AL pitchers—after earning 1.0 point as Player of the Game Sunday (7IP 5H 0R 4BB 5K W in the 2-0 win over the Athletics).

About Box-Toppers

Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. In regular season games, players earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.

Box-Toppers strives for accuracy. See a mistake in a post? A wrong name, wrong team, grammar error, spelling goof, etc.? Thanks for pointing it out! Contact Box-Toppers here. Let's fix it and make it right.
