Rays top Box-Toppers rankings for 6th straight week; Rangers are week’s hottest team

The Tampa Bay Rays maintain their lead in Box-Toppers team rankings for the sixth straight week.

Here are Box-Toppers final 2023 team rankings through games of Thursday, May 11. The column BTP shows the number of Box-Toppers points players on the team accumulated this season. The column BTP/wk shows have many points teams accumulated from May 5 to May 11 . The column Wk ago shows the team's rank on May 4.

Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Dodgers maintain their lead among National League teams and the Texas Rangers are the week’s hottest team.

Rays players have accumulated 37.1 Box-Toppers points this season, picking up 4.7 points in the past week. They lead over the second-place Rangers (33.8) by 3.3 points and lead over the NL-leading Dodgers (30.8 points, third overall) by 6.3 points.

The Rays have baseball’s best winning percentage (0.769) and are led by pitchers Shane McClanahan (6.7 Box-Toppers points, fourth among all players and third among AL pitchers) and Drew Rasmussen (6.7 Box-Toppers points, fifth among all players and fourth among AL pitchers). (Though both McClanahan and Rasmussen have 6.7 points, McClanahan ranks higher because he has more 2022 Box-Toppers points—16.4 vs. 11.1.) Rays’ top batter is Randy Arozarena (3.5 points, third among AL batters). There are 14 different Rays players who have earned Box-Toppers points so far in 2023.

The Dodgers lead NL teams for the second week with 30.8 Box-Toppers points, picking up 5.7 in the past week, falling from second to third place overall.

The Dodgers have the second-best winning percentage among NL teams (0.605), behind the Atlanta Braves (0.676), who rank fourth overall and second among NL teams with 28.0 Box-Toppers points.

The Dodgers are led by pitcher Clayton Kershaw (6.1 points), sixth overall and second among NL pitchers. Top batter is James Outman (3.2 points), sixth among NL batters. There are 14 different Dodgers players who have earned Box-Toppers points so far in 2023.

The Texas Rangers are the week’s hottest team, picking up 8.9 Box-Toppers points in the past week, most of any team, rising from fourth to second place overall with 33.8 points.

The Detroit Tigers had the biggest jump in Box-Toppers rankings in the past week, rising four spots from 20th to 16th place with 21.5 Box-Toppers points, picking up 5.0 in the past week.

The Pittsburgh Pirates and New York Mets had the biggest drops among all teams in the past week, falling three spots each. The Pirates fall from fifth to eighth place with 26.1 Box-Toppers points, picking up 2.0 in the past week. The Mets fall from 19th to 22nd place with 19.0 points, picking up 2.0 in the past week.

The Oakland Athletics rank 30th and last in Box-Toppers team rankings for the fourth week in a row with 9.0 Box-Toppers points, picking up 3.5 points in the past week.

Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. Players earn Box-Toppers points for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
