Brewers maintain Box-Toppers team rankings lead ahead of Yankees

The Milwaukee Brewers maintain the lead in Box-Toppers weekly team rankings report for the third week.

Meanwhile, the New York Yankees remain top American League team and the New York Mets are the week’s hottest team.

Here are Box-Toppers 2022 team rankings through games of Thursday, June. 2. The column BTP shows the number of Box-Toppers points players on the team accumulated this season. The column BTP/wk shows have many points teams accumulated from May 27 to June 2. The column Wk ago shows the team's rank on May 26.

Brewers players have accumulated 46.2 Box-Toppers points, picking up 5.7 points in the past week. The Brewers have baseball’s fifth-best winning percentage (.644), behind the Yankees (.706), the Los Angeles Dodgers (.667) the Mets (.660) and the Houston Astros (.647). The Yankees are second in Box-Toppers team rankings (44.7 Box-Toppers points), the Dodgers are fourth (41.0), the Mets are third (41.6) and the Astros are fifth (40.9).

This is the fifth straight week the Brewers have led National League teams.

The Brewers are led by pitcher Eric Lauer (6.7 Box-Toppers points, 13th overall and fourth among NL pitchers). Five of the top 10 NL pitchers in Box-Toppers points are Brewers, including Lauer, Corbin Burnes (5.7 points, sixth), Brandon Woodruff (5.7 points, seventh), Freddy Peralta (5.4 points, ninth) and Aaron Ashby (5.4 points, 10th). The Brewers top batter is Willy Adames (3.4 Box-Toppers points, 13th among NL batters). There are 15 different Brewers players who have earned Player of the Game honors so far in 2022.

The Yankees lead AL teams for the fourth week with 44.7 Box-Toppers points, maintaining their second-place overall ranking, and picked up 5.7 points in the past week. They have baseball’s best winning percentage (.706).

The Yankees are led by pitcher Nestor Cortes (8.4 Box-Toppers points, first among all players). The Yankees top batter is Aaron Judge (4.5 Box-Toppers points, fifth among AL batters). There are 17 different Yankees players who have earned Player of the Game honors so far in 2022.

The New York Mets are the week’s hottest team, picking up 7.7 Box-Toppers points in the past week. The Mets now have 41.6 Box-Toppers points, rising from eighth to third among all teams. The five-spot rise in rankings is also the biggest jump of all teams this week.

Two teams each had five-spot declines in team rankings, tied for the most among all teams:

  • The Philadelphia Phillies fell from 14th to 19th place with 26.4 points, picking up 1.0 point in the past week.

  • The Chicago White Sox fell from 18th to 23rd place with 24.7 points, picking up no points in the past week.

The Cincinnati Reds are in 30th and last place for the seventh straight week with 19.0 Box-Toppers points, picking up 4.0 points in the past week.

Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. Players earn Box-Toppers points for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
