Rockies pitcher Chad Kuhl is Monday’s Box-Toppers Player of the Day.
Kuhl pitched a complete-game, three-hit shutout, striking out five and walking none, in the 4-0 win over the Dodgers.
Kuhl earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 4.0 for the season, 89th among all players and 35th among National League pitchers.
American League Player of the Day—Blue Jays pitcher Kevin Gausman struck out 10 over seven scoreless innings, allowing four hits and two walks, in the 7-2 win over the Red Sox.
Gausman earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being AL Player of the Day, giving him 6.7 for the season, 25th among all players and 12th among AL pitchers.
American League Batter of the Day—Brandon Marsh of the Angels tripled and went 3-for-4, scoring twice and driving in one run, in the 4-3 win over the White Sox.
This was Marsh’s Box-Toppers debut, the first time in his career he earned Player of the Game honors. Marsh made his Major League debut July 18, 2021, and was playing in his 138th career game.
National League Batter of the Day—Luis Garcia of the Nationals hit two doubles and went 3-for-4, scoring twice and driving in no runs, in the 3-2 win over the Pirates.
This was Garcia’s Box-Toppers debut, the first time in his career he earned Player of the Game honors. Garcia made his Major League debut Aug. 14, 2020, and was playing in his 135th career game.
Notable—Twins pitcher Sonny Gray has the most 2022 Box-Toppers points among the nine who earned Player of the Game honors Monday.
Gray (7IP 3H 0R BB 3K W in the 11-1 win over the Guardians) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 7.4 for the season, 18th among all players and 10th among AL pitchers.
Also notable—Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright now has 148.3 career Box-Toppers points after earning Player of the Game honors Monday.
Wainwright (7IP 7H 0R BB 9K W in the 9-0 win over the Marlins) rises to 26th in career Box-Toppers points since tracking began in 1995. With his 1.0 point Monday, he passes Javier Vazquez (148.3) on the “all-time” list and now trails 25th-ranked Chipper Jones (149.0).
