Rockies’ Freeland tops players for Monday, June 28; Reds’ Castellanos rises to lead NL batter player rankings

Rockies pitcher Kyle Freeland is Monday’s Box-Toppers Player of the Day.

Meanwhile, Nick Castellanos of the Reds rises to first place among National League batters in Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning NL Batter of the Day honors Monday.

Player of the Day—Freeland struck out seven over five scoreless innings, allowing three hits and one walk, in the 2-0 win over the Pirates.

Freeland earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, his first points of the season, and is 238th in season player rankings, 71st among NL pitchers.

American League Player of the Day—Angels pitcher Jose Suarez struck out five over 5 1/3 innings of middle relief, allowing one run, two hits and one walk, in the 5-3 win over the Yankees.

National League Batter of the Day—Nick Castellanos of the Reds hit a grand slam and doubled in the 12-4 win over the Phillies. Castellanos went 3-for-5, scoring twice and driving in seven runs.

Castellanos earns 1.5 Box-Toppers points for being NL Batter of the Day, giving him 7.0 for the season, 26th among all players and rising to first among NL batters, passing previous leader Adam Duvall of the Marlins (6.0). Castellanos also now has the most Box-Toppers points among all batters in 2021, passing Xander Bogaerts of the Red Sox (6.5).

American League Batter of the Day—Jose Ramirez of the Indians hit a three-run homer, doubled and went 3-for-5, scoring twice and driving in five runs, in the 13-5 win over the Tigers.

Ramirez earns 1.5 Box-Toppers points for being AL Batter of the Day, giving him 6.0 for the season, rising to third among AL batters behind Xander Bogaerts of the Red Sox (6.5) and J.D. Martinez of the Red Sox (6.2).
