Also Friday, three other players rise in Box-Toppers top 10 season player rankings list after earning Player of the Game honors—J.D. Martinez of the Red Sox rises to third place, Padres pitcher Yu Darvish rises to seventh place and Orioles pitcher John Means rises to 10th place.

Player of the Day—Cole struck out 12 over six scoreless innings, allowing four hits and no walks, in the 10-0 win over the Tigers.

Cole earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 7.0 for the season, rising from third to second place in season player rankings. While he has the same Box-Toppers point total (7.0) as overall leader, Rays pitcher Tyler Glasnow, Cole ranks behind Glasnow because he has fewer 2020 Box-Toppers points—7.4 vs. 8.0. Cole also ranks second among American League pitchers behind Glasnow.

Martinez earns 1.5 Box-Toppers points for being AL Batter of the Day, giving him 6.2 for the season, rising from seventh to third in season player rankings, behind Glasnow and Cole (both with 7.0). Martinez maintains his lead among AL batters, ahead of second-place Yermin Mercedes of the White Sox (3.0). Martinez is the only batter among the top 10 players in 2021 Box-Toppers points. Mercedes, the next-highest ranking batter with fewer than half the points Martinez has, ranks 33rd overall.
