Cole struck out 11 over 7 2/3 innings, allowing one run, two hits and one walk, in the 11-1 win over the Athletics.

Cole earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 16.1 for the season, rising from fifth to first place in season player rankings, passing previous leader, teammate Justin Verlander (15.8), who had led all players since May 10.

Cole also rises from third to first place among American League pitchers, passing both Verlander and Rays pitcher Charlie Morton (14.8).

Cole becomes the second player this season to reach 15 Box-Toppers points. It is the second straight season he has had 15 or more points; in 2018, he had 18.0 points with the Astros, eighth among all players.

National League Player of the Day—Reds pitcher Sonny Gray struck out seven over six innings, allowing four hits and two walks, in the 6-5 win over the Brewers. Gray did not earn the win, picking up a no-decision, because the Brewers took the lead after he exited.

American League Batter of the Day—Mitch Garver of the Twins hit two home runs and went 3-for-4, scoring three times and driving in two runs, in the 8-6 win over the Yankees.

National League Batter of the Day—Paul Goldschmidt of the Cardinals hit a top-of-the-10th-inning grand slam in the 6-5, 10-inning win over the Pirates. Goldschmidt went 1-for-4, scoring once and driving in four runs.

Debut—Austin Nola of the Mariners made his Box-Toppers debut Monday with his first career Player of the Game honor.

Nola (HR 2-3 2R 3BI in the 7-3 win over the Rangers) made his Major League debut June 16 and was playing in his 24th career game.

Scoring—Cole earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day and Gray earns 1.7 points for being NL Player of the Day. Garver and Goldschmidt each earn 1.5 points for being their league’s Batter of the Day. All of Monday’s other Players of the Game (listed in the chart below) earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point.
