Also Friday, Reds pitcher Luis Castillo rises to fifth place in Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning National League Player of the Day honors.

Player of the Day—Verlander struck out eight over seven scoreless innings, allowing one hit and two walks, in the 3-0 win over the Rangers.

Verlander earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 8.4 for the season, rising from fourth to first place in overall player rankings and passing Tyler Glasnow of the Rays (6.7 points) for the lead among American League pitchers. Verlander previously led this season from April 24 to May 2.

Verlander also now has 186.5 career Box-Toppers points, ninth among all players since 1995, when player tracking began. He trails eighth-ranked player Alex Rodriguez (187.0). Verlander ranks fifth among active players in career points.

American League Batter of the Day—Andrelton Simmons of the Angels went 4-for-5, scoring twice and driving in two runs, in the 8-3 win over the Orioles.

Notable—Brewers pitcher Gio Gonzalez now has 105.9 career Box-Toppers points after earning Player of the Game honors Friday.

Gonzalez (5.2IP 2H 0R 3BB 3K W in the 7-0 win over the Cubs) rises to 69th place among all players in career points since 1995, when Box-Toppers tracking began.
