Also Wednesday, Phillies pitcher Aaron Nola rises to eighth place in Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors.

Player of the Day—Anderson struck out nine over eight scoreless innings, allowing two hits and two walks, in the 1-0 win over the Giants.

Anderson earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 7.0 for the season, 10th among National League pitchers.

American League Player of the Day—Red Sox pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez struck out six over six scoreless innings, allowing three hits and one walk, in the 3-0 win over the Nationals.

National League Batter of the Day—Willson Contreras of the Cubs homered, doubled and went 2-for-3, scoring once and driving in three runs, in the 5-2 win over the Tigers.

Both Contreras and Yasmani Grandal of the Dodgers, Player of the Game in his team’s win Wednesday (2B 2-3 R 3BI in the 6-4 win over the Pirates), had Box-Toppers game scores of +3.0 and very similar line scores. But Contreras edged Grandal to earn NL Batter of the Day because he homered in his game, while Grandal’s biggest extra base hit was a double.

American League Batter of the Day—Stephen Piscotty of the Athletics hit three doubles and went 3-for-4, driving in three runs, in the 4-2 win over the Padres.

Notable—Indians pitcher Trevor Bauer becomes the 12th player this season with 10 or more Box-Toppers points after earning Player of the Game honors Wednesday.

Bauer (7.2IP 7H 2R BB 8K W in the 3-2 win over the Royals) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 10.4 for the season, 12th among all players and ninth among AL pitchers.
