Dodgers maintain Box-Toppers team rankings lead for 9th straight week, Indians top AL teams

The Los Angeles Dodgers top Box-Toppers team rankings for the ninth straight week.

Meanwhile, the Cleveland Indians lead American League teams in Box-Toppers rankings for the second week and the Minnesota Twins are the week’s hottest team.

Here are Box-Toppers' top 10 team rankings, through the games of Thursday, Aug. 24. The column BTP shows the number of Box-Toppers points players on the team have accumulated so far this season. The column BTP/wk shows have many points teams accumulated from Aug. 18 to Aug. 24. The column Wk ago shows the team's rank as of Aug. 17.

Dodgers players have accumulated 121.2 Box-Toppers points so far this season, including 7.2 since last week, most of any National League team. The Dodgers also have baseball’s best winning percentage (.714).

The Dodgers are led by pitcher Clayton Kershaw (22.1 Box-Toppers points), who also leads all players in season player rankings. Kershaw, however, is on the disabled list and is not expected to return until at least late August. Dodgers’ top batter is Cody Bellinger (8.7), who ranks second among NL batters in Box-Toppers points. Twenty-five different Dodgers players have earned Box-Toppers Player of the Game honors so far this season.

The Dodgers lead the second-ranked Washington Nationals. The Nationals have 109.3 Box-Toppers points, 11.9 points behind the Dodgers, and earned 5.0 points this past week.

The Indians lead AL teams in Box-Toppers points for the second week with 99.4, holding steady at third among all teams. The Indians earned 4.7 points during the past week and have the third-best winning percentage in the AL (.556), behind the Houston Astros (.606) and Boston Red Sox (.575).

The Indians are led by pitcher Corey Kluber (14.0 Box-Toppers points), who ranks eighth among all players. Top batter is Edwin Encarnacion (11.1), who leads AL batters in Box-Toppers points. Twenty-one different Indians players have earned Player of the Game honors so far this season.

The Minnesota Twins are the hottest team of the past week, picking up 7.5 Box-Toppers points and rising from 17th to 15th place among all teams with 73.3 Box-Toppers points for the season.

The Chicago White Sox are the lowest-ranked team for the sixth straight week. The White Sox have 33.9 Box-Toppers points, gaining 5.0 points during the previous week.

Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. Players earn Box-Toppers points for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
