Washington Nationals remain atop Box-Toppers team rankings for 2nd week

The Washington Nationals remain Box-Toppers’ top team for the second week in a row in the weekly team rankings report.

The Nationals also tied with the Arizona Diamondbacks as the hottest team of the week.

Here are Box-Toppers' top 10 team rankings, through the games of Thursday, April 27. The column BTP shows the number of Box-Toppers points players on the team have accumulated so far this season. The column BTP/wk shows have many points teams accumulated from April 21 to 27. The column Wk ago shows the team's rank as of April 20.

Also, the New York Yankees are the top-ranked American League team, passing previous leader Boston Red Sox.

Nationals players have accumulated 19.9 Box-Toppers points so far in 2017, including 6.7 points in the past week. The Nationals also have baseball’s best winning percentage (.727).

The Nationals are led by pitcher Max Scherzer, who has 4.0 Box-Toppers points, fifth among players this season. Top batter for the Nationals is Bryce Harper (4.0 points), who ranks first among NL batters and seventh overall. Ten different Nationals players have earned Box-Toppers Player of the Game honors so far this season.

The Nationals’ 6.7 points in the past week is tied for the most with the Diamondbacks, which rose from ninth to second place among all teams with 17.2 Box-Toppers points.

The AL-leading Yankees have 16.2 Box-Toppers points, including 4.2 in the past week. The Yankees maintain the fourth-place ranking among all teams they held last week. The Yankees are led by Aaron Judge (2.5 Box-Toppers points). Top pitcher is Michael Pineda (2.0 points). Nine different Yankees have earned Player of the Game honors so far this season.

The Toronto Blue Jays maintain their rank of 30th and last place among all teams with 6.0 Box-Toppers points, earning 3.0 points during the past week.

Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played.
