Chicago Cubs maintain lead in Box-Toppers team rankings, Red Sox lead AL teams

The Chicago Cubs maintain their lead in Box-Toppers weekly team rankings report.

Here are Box-Toppers' team rankings, through the games of Thursday, Sept. 1. The column BTP shows the number of Box-Toppers points players on the team have accumulated so far this season. The column BTP/wk shows have many points teams accumulated from Aug. 26 to Sept. 1. The column Wk ago shows the team's rank as of Aug. 25.

Meanwhile, the Boston Red Sox maintain their lead among American League teams and the New York Mets are the week’s hottest team.

Cubs players have accumulated 117.6 Box-Toppers points this season, picking up 6.0 points in the past week. The Cubs also have baseball’s best winning percentage (.647). The Cubs are led by pitcher Jon Lester (15.4 Box-Toppers points). Top batter is Kris Bryant (10.5 points), who also leads all National League batters. Twenty-three different Cubs players have earned Player of the Game honors so far this season.

The Cubs lead the second-place Los Angeles Dodgers (108.8 accumulated Box-Toppers points) by 8.8 points. The Dodgers picked up 4.2 points in the past week.

The Red Sox maintain their spot atop AL teams with 106.3 Box-Toppers points, picking up 3.0 points in the past week. The Red Sox also maintain their overall rank of third place. 

The Red Sox are led by pitcher Drew Pomeranz (11.4 Box-Toppers points). Top batter is Mookie Betts (6.2 points). Twenty-eight different Red Sox players have earned Player of the Game honors so far this season.

While the Red Sox have more Box-Toppers points than any AL team, the team is fourth among AL teams in winning percentage (.556) and is two games behind the Toronto Blue Jaysin the AL East.

The New York Mets were the hottest team of the past week, picking up 7.5 points from Aug. 26 to Sept. 1, more than any other team. Mets players have accumulated 98.5 Box-Toppers points this season and rank eighth among all teams. 

The San Diego Padres remain in 30th and last place among all teams with 46.8 Box-Toppers points, picking up 3.0 points in the past week.

Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. In regular season games, players earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.

Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. Players earn Box-Toppers points for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
