Jose Miranda of the Padres is Box-Toppers Player of the Day in Saturday’s spring training games.

Miranda doubled and went 3-for-3, scoring once and driving in four runs, in the 10-3 win over the Royals.

Miranda is looking to rebound from a 2025 season derailed by a freak hand injury sustained while catching a falling case of water at a Target. The injury limited him to just 12 games and 0.0 Box-Toppers points before a demotion to the minors. This is a sharp contrast to 2024, when he earned 4.5 points, ranking fourth among American League third basemen.

American League Player of the Day

Aaron Judge of the Yankees hit two home runs and went 2-for-2, scoring twice and driving in four runs, in the 20-3 win over the Tigers.

Despite winning the 2025 AL Most Valuable Player Award and posting a .331 average with 53 home runs, Judge earned a surprisingly low 6.5 Box-Toppers points (20th among AL batters). He was frequently outpaced for Box-Toppers Player of the Game honors by teammates with higher single-game scores, leading to an incongruous season total despite his offensive dominance.

Tiebreakers

Miranda, Judge and Ben Gamel of the Braves all recorded +5.0 Box-Toppers game scores in Saturday’s spring games. Miranda won overall Player of the Day on a tiebreaker with the most hits (three vs. two for the other two players). Judge ranked ahead of Gamel with more at bats (three vs. two).

Gamel (HR 2B 2-2 2R 3BI) was Player of the Game in the 5-1 win over the Rays

American League and National League Batters of the Day

No separate Batter of the Day awards were issued Saturday, as the overall and league Players of the Day (Miranda and Judge) were both batters.

Saturday’s Scoring Summary

No official Box-Toppers points are awarded for preseason exhibition games. Had this been the regular season, points would have been distributed as follows:

  • Jose Miranda (SD): 2.0 points (Player of the Day)

  • Aaron Judge (NYY): 1.7 points (AL Player of the Day)

  • All other winners, listed in the chart: 1.0 point

About Box-Toppers

Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. In regular season games, players earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day. (No Box-Toppers points are awarded in postseason games.)
