Two prospects without a day of Major League experience stole the spotlight Sunday, earning top Box-Toppers honors in spring training action.

Player of the Day: Dustin Dickerson, Royals

Dickerson powered the Royals to a 7-3 win over the Brewers, going 2-for-2 with a three-run homer, a double, and four RBIs. Despite 248 minor league games over six seasons, Dickerson has yet to make his MLB debut and remains at 0.0 career Box-Toppers points.

NL Player of the Day: Esmerlyn Valdez, Pirates

Valdez made his hits count in a 4-3 win over the Phillies, finishing 2-for-2 with a grand slam and four RBIs. A veteran of 356 minor league games across five seasons, Valdez also currently holds 0.0 Box-Toppers points.

AL and NL Batters of the Day

Because Dickerson and Valdez swept the top overall honors, no separate American League or National League Batters of the Day were awarded for Sunday.

Sunday’s games

In Sunday’s 16 completed spring training matchups, the "new guard" dominated:

  • 12 Games: Won by players with 0.0 career regular-season Box-Toppers points.

  • 3 Games: Won by established players with previous regular-season points.

  • 1 Game: Ended in a tie (Orioles vs. Tigers); no Player of the Game awarded.

Sunday’s Scoring Summary

No official Box-Toppers points are awarded for preseason exhibition games. Had this been the regular season, points would have been distributed as follows:
