Also Tuesday, Dodgers closing pitcher Evan Phillips rises to lead Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors.

Player of the Day

Crochet struck out eight over seven innings, allowing one run, three hits and one walk, in the 3-2 win over the Braves.

Crochet earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 2.0 for the season, ninth among all players. Crochet now has 3.0 career Box-Toppers points after earning 1.0 point in 2021 with the White Sox.

Crochet had a +9.0 Box-Toppers game score, tied with another Tuesday Player of the Game winner, Guardians pitcher Shane Bieber (6IP 6H 0R 0BB 9K W in the 5-2 win over the Mariners). Crochet beat Bieber for overall Player of the Day honors because he had more innings pitched—seven vs. six.

National League Player of the Day is Bryce Harper of the Phillies.

National League Player of the Day

Bryce Harper of the Phillies hit three home runs, including a grand slam, and went 3-for-4, scoring three times and driving in six runs, in the 9-4 win over the Reds.

Harper earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 1.7 for the season, 13th among all players.

Harper is the only batter to earn Player of the Game honors in Tuesday’s 13 games; pitchers won the honors in the other 12 games. Harper narrowly won Player of the Game honors among Phillies over starting pitcher Spencer Turnbull (5IP 3H R 0ER 0BB 7K W). Both had +8.0 Box-Toppers game scores. Harper won Player of the Game honors because in cases of game score ties, batters rank ahead of pitchers.

Harper has now earned Box-Toppers points in 10 straight seasons with his first Player of the Game honor of the 2024 season. He earned his first Box-Toppers points in 2012 with the Nationals but his streak began in 2015 with the Nationals because he earned no points in 2014.

His 67.6 career Box-Toppers points is fifth among active NL batters. His best season was 2013 with the Nationals when he earned 9.4 points, fifth among NL batters. He earned 3.0 points in 2023 with the Phillies, 74th among NL batters.

AL & NL Batters of the Day

There is no separate American League Batter of the Day for Tuesday because no AL batter won Player of the Game honors. There is no separate NL Batter of the Day for Tuesday because the overall NL Player of the Day is batter Bryce Harper.

Dodgers closing pitcher Evan Phillips rises to lead Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors Tuesday.

New Box-Toppers points leader

Dodgers closing pitcher Evan Phillips rises from seventh to first place in Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors Tuesday.

Phillips (1.1IP H 0R 0BB 2K Sv in the 5-4 win over the Giants) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 3.0 for the season, passing previous leader Orioles pitcher Corbin Burnes (2.0 points), who falls to second place.

Phillips was Box-Toppers Player of the Day March 20 on the season’s sole Seoul Opening Day game in South Korea, in which he earned 2.0 Box-Toppers points and took the first lead in 2024 season player rankings.

Royals pitcher Alec Marsh made his Box-Toppers debut Tuesday with his first career Player of the Game honor.

About Box-Toppers

Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. In regular season games, players earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.

Box-Toppers strives for accuracy. See a mistake in a post? A wrong name, wrong team, grammar error, spelling goof, etc.? Thanks for pointing it out! Contact Box-Toppers here. Let's fix it and make it right.
