Cole struck out nine over seven scoreless innings, allowing three hits and no walks, in the 4-3, 13-inning win over the Brewers. Cole did not earn the win, picking up a no-decision, because the game was in a scoreless tie when he exited.

Cole earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 14.0 for the season, 10th among all players and sixth among American League pitchers.

Cole also now has 152.3 career Box-Toppers points, rising to 24th among all players since 1995, when Box-Toppers tracking began. With his 2.0 Box-Toppers points Sunday, he passes three players on the “all-time” career points list—Barry Bonds (152.2), Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright (152.3) and Red Sox pitcher Chris Sale (152.3). (It should be noted that Bonds would have a projected 230 career Box-Toppers points if his entire career from 1986 were tracked.)

Also, while Cole, Sale and Wainwright all have the same 152.3 career point total, Cole ranks ahead of the other two because he has more 2023 points—Cole (14.0), Sale (7.7), Wainwright (0.0).

Cole now trails 23rd-ranked player on the “all-time” career points list, Greg Maddux (152.7). (It should be noted that Maddux would have an estimated 250 career Box-Toppers points if his entire career from 1986 were tracked.)

Passing Sale and Wainwright, Cole now ranks sixth among active players in career Box-Toppers points, fourth among active AL pitchers.

National League Player of the Day is Reds pitcher Hunter Greene.

Tucker has the most Box-Toppers points earned solely for batting for any player this season, ahead of Ronald Acuna Jr. of the Braves (10.7). (It should be noted that 9.7 of Ohtani’s 19.4 points have been earned as a batter, the other 9.7 as a starting pitcher.)

About Box-Toppers

Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. In regular season games, players earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.

Box-Toppers strives for accuracy. See a mistake in a post? A wrong name, wrong team, grammar error, spelling goof, etc.? Thanks for pointing it out! Contact Box-Toppers here. Let's fix it and make it right.
