American League Batter of the Day

Hunter Renfroe of the Angels homered, doubled and went 3-for-4, scoring twice and driving in four runs, in the 10-8 win over the Phillies.

Renfroe was reportedly one of the players the Angels waived this week to provide salary relief for the team as their hopes for postseason play has dimmed and also to provide opportunity for these players to join a team still vying for the playoffs. Teams who claim players before the end of August can still put players on a postseason roster.

National League Batter of the Day is Jordan Walker of the Cardinals.

This was Walker’s Box-Toppers debut, his first career Player of the Game honor. Walker made his Major League debut March 30 and was playing in his 90th career game.

Rays pitcher Zach Eflin is Box-Toppers Player of the Game in Wednesday’s win over the Marlins.

About Box-Toppers

Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. In regular season games, players earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
