White Sox pitcher Michael Kopech is Friday’s Box-Toppers Player of the Day.

Also Friday, Rays pitcher Shane McClanahan rises to second place in Box-Toppers season player rankings—first among American League pitchers—after earning Player of the Game honors.

Player of the Day—Kopech struck out 10 over eight scoreless innings, allowing one hit and no walks, in the 2-0 win over the Royals.

Kopech did not give up the single hit until the sixth inning.

Kopech earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 3.0 for the season, 64th among all players and 23rd among American League pitchers.

Pirates pitcher Johan Oviedo is Friday’s Box-Toppers National League Player of the Day.

National League Player of the Day—Pirates pitcher Johan Oviedo struck out seven over six innings, allowing one run, two hits and three walks, in the 13-3 win over the Diamondbacks.

Oviedo earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being NL Player of the Day, giving him 3.7 for the season, 17th among NL pitchers.

Rafael Devers of the Red Sox is Friday’s Box-Toppers American League Batter of the Day.

American League Batter of the Day—Rafael Devers of the Red Sox hit two home runs, including a three-run shot, in the 6-1 win over the Padres. Devers went 2-for-4, scoring twice and driving in four runs.

Devers earns 1.5 Box-Toppers points for being AL Batter of the Day, giving him 4.0 for the season, ninth among AL batters.

Francisco Alvarez of the Mets is Friday’s Box-Toppers National League Batter of the Day.

National League Batter of the Day—Francisco Alvarez of the Mets homered and went 2-for-4, scoring twice and driving in two runs, in the 10-9, 10-inning win over the Guardians.

This was Alvarez’s Box-Toppers debut, his first career Player of the Game honor. Alvarez made his Major League debut Sept. 30, 2022, and was playing in his 32nd career game.

Rays pitcher Shane McClanahan is Box-Toppers Player of the Game in Friday’s win over the Brewers.

Rankings—Rays pitcher Shane McClanahan rises from fifth to second place in Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors Friday.

McClanahan (7IP 6H 0R BB 7K ND in the 1-0 win over the Brewers) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 7.7 for the season. He trails only Diamondbacks pitcher Zac Gallen (7.7) in 2023 Box-Toppers points and also rises to first among AL pitchers, passing Jacob deGrom of the Rangers (7.7).

Though Gallen, McClanahan and deGrom all have 7.7 Box-Toppers points in 2023, Gallen ranks highest because he has the most 2022 Box-Toppers points (18.7), followed by McClanahan (16.4) and deGrom (9.4).
