Mets pitcher Max Scherzer is Saturday’s Box-Toppers Player of the Day.

Scherzer struck out 11 over seven scoreless innings, allowing four hits and no walks, in the 6-2 win over the Braves.

Scherzer earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 8.0 for the season, 38th among all players and 18th among National League pitchers.

Scherzer also now has 234.3 career Box-Toppers points, fourth among all players since 1995 when Box-Toppers tracking began. He trails third-ranked player Pedro Martinez (244.8). Scherzer ranks second among active players in career points behind Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw (254.6) and also ranks second among active NL pitchers in career points behind Kershaw.

Dunning earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being AL Player of the Day, giving him 3.4 for the season, 63rd among AL pitchers.

Will Smith of the Dodgers is Saturday’s Box-Toppers NL Batter of the Day.

National League Batter of the Day—Will Smith of the Dodgers homered and went 2-for-2, scoring twice and driving in three runs, in the 8-3 win over the Padres.

Harold Castro of the Tigers is Saturday’s Box-Toppers AL Batter of the Day.

Debut—Jose Barrero of the Reds made his Box-Toppers debut Saturday with his first career Player of the Game honor.

Barrero (2HR 2-4 2R 3BI in the 7-5 win over the Brewers) made his Major League debut Aug. 27, 2020, and was playing in his 48th career game.
