Guardians pitcher Triston McKenzie is Sunday’s Box-Toppers Player of the Day.

McKenzie struck out eight over eight scoreless innings, allowing two hits and one walk, in the 1-0 win over the Astros.

McKenzie earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 10.0 for the season, 20th among all players and eighth among American League pitchers.

McKenzie becomes the 20th player this season to reach 10 Box-Toppers points. It is his second season with 10 or more points. In 2021, he had 10.4 points also with Cleveland, 16th among AL pitchers.

National League Player of the Day—Mets pitcher Jacob deGrom struck out 12 over 5 2/3 innings, allowing two runs, one hit and one walk, in the 5-2 win over the Braves.

deGrom earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being NL Player of the Day, his first points of the season, and ranks 99th among NL pitchers.

deGrom had a perfect game and no-hitter going until giving up a walk with two out in the sixth inning and subsequently giving up a home run. It was his second start of the season after sitting out from July 2021 until August 2022. deGrom earned 16.7 Box-Toppers points in 2021, ninth among all players and seventh among NL pitchers, despite missing nearly the entire second half of the season.

deGrom now has 123.8 career Box-Toppers points, 47th among all players since Box-Toppers tracking began in 1995. He trails 46th-ranked player Gary Sheffield (124.1). deGrom ranks 14th among active players in career points, seventh among active NL pitchers.

Notable—Dodgers pitcher Tyler Anderson had the most 2022 Box-Toppers points among the 15 who earned Player of the Game honors Sunday.

Anderson (7IP 2H 0R BB 3K W in the 4-0 win over the Padres) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 10.7 for the season, 19th among all players and eighth among NL pitchers.

Anderson also becomes the 21st player this season to reach 10 Box-Toppers points. It is his first season with 10 or more points. His previous best season was 2018 with the Rockies, when he had 8.0 Box-Toppers points, 39th among NL pitchers.
