Also Friday, Brewers pitcher Eric Lauer rises to second place in Box-Toppers season player rankings—first place among National League pitchers—after earning NL Player of the Day honors.

Player of the Day—Winder struck out eight over six innings, allowing one run (none earned), three hits and no walks, in the 2-1 win over the Athletics.

Winder earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 4.0 for the season, 18th among all players and sixth among American League pitchers.

National League Player of the Day—Brewers pitcher Eric Lauer struck out eight over 6 1/3 innings, allowing two runs (one earned), two hits and three walks, in the 6-3 win over the Braves.

Lauer earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being NL Player of the Day, giving him 5.7 for the season, rising to second place in season player rankings, behind only Shohei Ohtani of the Angels (7.0). 

Lauer rises to first place among NL pitchers, passing previous leader Tylor Megill of the Mets. Though both Lauer and Megill have 5.7 Box-Toppers points in 2022 and both had 6.0 points in 2021, Lauer ranks ahead because he had more 2019 points—6.7 vs. 0.0. Lauer had 0.0 points in 2020 and Megill made his Box-Toppers debut in 2021.

This is the fourth straight day a Brewers player has earned either NL Player of the Day or overall Player of the Day honors:

The Brewers were Box-Toppers’ hottest team of the week ending Thursday (also rising to first place overall), picking up 9.1 Box-Toppers points in the previous week, which included the 5.4 points earned by Brewers players Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. (It should be noted that those three games were against the Reds, which is Box-Toppers’ lowest-ranked team.)

Debut—Angels pitcher Jhonathan Diaz made his Box-Toppers debut Friday with his first career Player of the Game honor.

Diaz (5IP 3H 0R 4BB 4K W in the 3-0 win over the Nationals) made his Major League debut Sept. 17, 2021, and was playing in his fourth career game.
