The New York Mets lead Box-Toppers first weekly team rankings report of the 2022 season.

Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Angels—the week’s hottest team—lead American League teams.

Here are Box-Toppers 2022 team rankings through games of Thursday, April. 21. The column BTP shows the number of Box-Toppers points players on the team accumulated this season. The column BTP/wk shows have many points teams accumulated from April. 15 to April 21. The column Wk ago shows the team's rank on April 14.

Mets players have accumulated 12.7 Box-Toppers points in the first two weeks of the season, through games of Thursday, April 21, picking up 5.0 in the past week since April 14. The Mets also led teams at the end of the first week of the season. 

The Mets have baseball’s second-best winning percentage (.750), behind the Los Angeles Dodgers (.750), who have 11.5 Box-Toppers points, second among all teams.

The Mets are led by pitcher Tylor Megill (3.7 Box-Toppers points, second among NL pitchers). Top batter is Pete Alonso (1.5 points, ninth among NL batters). Eight Mets players have earned Box-Toppers points so far in 2022.

Angels players have accumulated 11.0 Box-Toppers points, the same as two other teams—the Colorado Rockies and the San Diego Padres. The Angels rank highest because they earned the most Box-Toppers points in the past week (7.0), which is the most among all teams. The Angels rank third among all teams. They are tied for best winning percentage among AL teams (.615) with the Toronto Blue Jays, who have 9.7 Box-Toppers points, sixth overall and second among AL teams.

The Angels are led by Shohei Ohtani, whose 5.0 Box-Toppers points leads all players. Ohtani also leads both AL pitchers and AL batters. He has earned Box-Toppers Player of the Game honors three times in 2022, twice as designated hitter (earning 3.0 points) and once as starting pitcher (earning 2.0 points). Six Angels players have earned Player of the Game honors so far in 2022.

The Cincinnati Reds are in 30th and last place with 2.0 Box-Toppers points, picking up no points in the past week, falling from 29th place last week. Last week’s lowest ranked team, the Baltimore Orioles, rose to 28th place with 4.0 points, picking up 3.0 in the past week.

Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. Players earn Box-Toppers points for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
