The Los Angeles Dodgers lead Box-Toppers first weekly team rankings report of the 2021 season.

Meanwhile, the Boston Red Sox lead American League teams. The Dodgers and the Cleveland Indians are the week’s hottest teams.

Here are Box-Toppers 2021 team rankings, through the games of Thursday, April 15. The column BTP shows the number of Box-Toppers points players on the team accumulated this season. The column BTP/wk shows have many points teams accumulated from April 9 to Sept. 15. The column Wk ago shows the team's rank as of April 8.

Dodgers players have accumulated 13.8 Box-Toppers points in the first two weeks of the season, through the games of Thursday, April 15, picking up 7.4 points in the past week since April 8. The Dodgers rose from fourth place among all teams last week after the first week of the season. The Dodgers have baseball’s best winning percentage (.846).

The Dodgers also led Box-Toppers 2021 preseason team rankings, led Box-Toppers 2020 final team rankings and won the 2020 World Series.

The Dodgers are led by pitchers Trevor Bauer and Clayton Kershaw (both with 2.7 Box-Toppers points). Bauer ranks 10th overall and second among National League pitchers and Kershaw ranks 11th overall and third among NL pitchers. Dodgers’ top batter is Justin Turner (1.7 points, first among NL batters). Eight different Dodgers have earned Box-Toppers points so far this season.

The Red Sox lead AL teams with 10.7 Box-Toppers points, second among all teams. They rise from 12th place last week, picking up 6.2 points over the past week. The Red Sox have the AL’s best winning percentage (.692), second among all teams behind the Dodgers.

The Red Sox are led by relief pitcher Matt Barnes with 4.0 Box-Toppers points, second among all players and second among AL pitchers. Red Sox’ top batter is J.D. Martinez with 3.2 points, fifth among all players and first among AL batters. Five different Red Sox players have earned Box-Toppers points so far this season.

The Dodgers and the Cleveland Indians both picked up 7.4 points in the past week, tied for the most among all teams. The Indians rise from 23rd last week to fifth this week with 10.1 points, second among AL teams. The Indians’ 18-spot rise was the largest among all teams.

The Houston Astros had the biggest drop of the past week, falling 17 spots from first to 18th with 7.0 points after picking up no points in the past week, losing all five games they’ve played.

The Washington Nationals are in 30th and last place with 3.0 Box-Toppers points, picking up 2.0 in the past week, falling from 29th place last week. Last week’s lowest ranked team, the Pittsburgh Pirates, rose to 26th place with 5.5 points, picking up 4.5 in the past week.

Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. Players earn Box-Toppers points for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
