Houston Astros lead Box-Toppers team rankings for fourth straight week

The Houston Astros maintain the lead in Box-Toppers weekly team rankings for the fourth straight week and are the week’s hottest team.

Here are Box-Toppers 2019 season team rankings, through the games of Thursday, June 6. The column BTP shows the number of Box-Toppers points players on the team accumulated this season. The column BTP/wk shows have many points teams accumulated from May 31 to June 6. The column Wk ago shows the team's rank as of May 30.

Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Dodgers maintain their lead among National League teams.

Astros players have accumulated 55.6 Box-Toppers points through the games of June 6, picking up 7.4 points in the past week, most of any team. 

The Astros have baseball’s third-best winning percentage (.6718), behind the Los Angeles Dodgers (.683) and the Minnesota Twins (.6721). The Dodgers rank second in Box-Toppers team rankings (52.6 points) and the Twins rank third (51.3).

The Astros are led by pitcher Justin Verlander, who has 13.8 Box-Toppers points, leading all players in 2019. Top batter is Alex Bregman (4.5 points, fourth among American League batters). Fifteen different Astros players have earned Box-Toppers points so far this season in the team’s 43 wins.

The Los Angeles Dodgers maintain the lead among NL teams for the fifth straight week with 52.6 Box-Toppers points, picking up 6.0 points in the past week. The Dodgers maintain their rank of second place overall, 3.0 points behind the Astros.

The Dodgers are led by pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu with 9.7 Box-Toppers points, fourth among all players and second among NL pitchers. Top batter is Cody Bellinger (8.2 Box-Toppers points), who ranks eighth among all players and first among NL batters. Sixteen different Dodgers players have earned Box-Toppers points so far this season in the team’s 43 wins.

The Colorado Rockies had the biggest rise in the rankings this week, jumping seven spots from 18th to 11th place overall with 38.7 Box-Toppers points, earning 7.0 points in the past week, most among all NL teams.

The Oakland Athletics had the biggest decline in the past week, falling five spots from 11th place overall to 16th, picking up 2.0 points in the past week. The Athletics now have 37.3 points for the season. 

The Kansas City Royals fall from 28th to 30th and last place with 21.5 Box-Toppers points, picking up no points in the past week. Last week’s lowest-ranked team, the Baltimore Orioles, rise to 29th place with 22.2 Box-Toppers points, picking up 2.7 points in the past week.

Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. Players earn Box-Toppers points for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
