Christian Vazquez tops players Tuesday as Red Sox eliminate Yankees in AL Division Series

Christian Vazquez of the Red Sox is Box-Toppers Player of the Game in Tuesday’s deciding Game 4 of the American League Division Series.

ALDS Game 4: Red Sox 4, Yankees 3

Vazquez homered and went 1-for-3, scoring once and driving in one run, as the Boston Red Sox eliminated the New York Yankees in the best-of-five game series, 3-1.

Vazquez had 2.0 Box-Toppers points in 2018, 413th among all players, 102nd among AL batters and ninth among AL catchers.

Vazquez had a Box-Toppers game score of 0.0. Starting pitcher for the Red Sox, Rick Porcello also had a Box-Toppers game score of 0.0 (5IP 4H R 0BB K W), but batters hold the advantage over pitchers in cases of game score ties, giving Vazquez the edge to earn Player of the Game.

Chris Sale, who acted as a middle reliever in the game for the Red Sox, actually had a Box-Toppers game score of +2.0, better than both Vazquez and Porcello. But Sale was not eligible to earn Player of the Game because he didn’t pitch at least three innings and did not earn the win or save.

Closer Craig Kimbrel picked up the save but nearly blew the game for the Red Sox. He had a Box-Toppers game score of -5.0 (1IP H 2R 2BB K Sv).

Yankees starter CC Sabathia had a Box-Toppers game score of -9.0 (3IP 5H 3R 2BB K L).

The Red Sox now face the Houston Astros in the AL Championship Series beginning Saturday in Boston.

The Yankees and Red Sox are the top two teams in Box-Toppers team rankings for 2018. The Red Sox rank first (143.6 Box-Toppers points) and the Yankees rank second (135.2 points).
