Also Wednesday, Nationals pitcher Stephen Strasburg rises to fourth place in Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning National League Player of the Day honors. Plus, Edwin Encarnacion of the Indians extends his 2017 Box-Toppers points lead among American League batters after earning Player of the Game honors.

Player of the Day—Berrios struck out 11 over seven scoreless innings, allowing four hits and one walk, in the 11-1 win over the White Sox.

National League Player of the Day—Nationals pitcher Stephen Strasburg pitched a complete-game, six-hit shutout, striking out eight and walking one, in the 4-0 win over the Marlins.

Strasburg earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being NL Player of the Day, giving him 16.1 for the season, rising from ninth to fourth place in season player rankings. He ranks third among NL pitchers, behind teammate Max Scherzer (23.0) and Clayton Kershaw of the Dodgers (22.1).

American League Batter of the Day—Wellington Castillo of the Orioles homered, doubled and went 4-for-4, scoring twice and driving in three runs, in the 8-7 win over the Mariners.

National League Batter of the Day—Jonathan Villar of the Brewers homered and went 2-for-4, scoring twice and driving in three runs, in the 6-5 win over the Cardinals.

Rankings—Edwin Encarnacion of the Indians extended his 2017 Box-Toppers points lead among AL batters after earning Player of the Game honors Wednesday.

Encarnacion (HR 2-4 2R 2BI in the 9-4 win over the Yankees) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 12.1 for the season. He leads second-place AL batter Ryon Healy of the Athletics (9.7) by 2.4 points. He ranks 15th among all players.

Notable—Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander now has 148.0 career Box-Toppers points after earning Player of the Game honors Wednesday.

Verlander (6IP 3H R BB 9K W in the 6-2 win over the Rockies) ranks 25th among all players in career points since 1995, when Box-Toppers tracking began. He trails 24th-ranked player Javier Vazquez (148.3). Verlander has 8.7 Box-Toppers points on the season, 13th among AL pitchers.
