Meanwhile, Alex Rodriguez of the Yankees was top player in the game in which he tied Willie Mays’ career home run mark and Mets pitcher Matt Harvey rose to fifth place in Box-Toppers player rankings.

National League Player of the Day—Cardinals pitcher Lance Lynn struck out 10 over seven innings and allowed one run in the 2-1, 10-inning win over the Pirates. Lynn exited the game with the score tied at 1-1 and so did not earn the win, but picked up a no-decision.

National League Batter of the Day—Justin Upton of the Padres went 3-for-4, scored three times and drove in two runs, in the 14-3 win over the Rockies.

Streak—Ryan Howard of the Phillies has now earned at least 1.0 Box-Toppers point for 11 straight seasons. Howard was Player of the Game in Tuesday’s 7-3 win over the Marlins (HR 2-3 2R 2BI) and earned 1.0 Box-Toppers point. Tigers' Alfredo Simon (5IP 0R H) tops players for Saturday, April 4's final spring games

Tigers pitcher Alfredo Simon is Saturday’s Player of the Day on the final day of spring training.

Simon pitched five scoreless innings, allowing one hit, in the 1-0 win over the Rays.

Phillies pitcher David Buchanan is National League Player of the Day. Buchanan pitched five scoreless innings and struck out four in the 6-4 win over the Pirates.

Mark Trumbo of the Diamondbacks is NL Batter of the Day. Trumbo hit a two-run homer and went 2-for-2 with three RBIs in the 4-2 win over the Cubs.

Chris Young of the Yankees is AL Batter of the Day. Young hit a two-run homer in the 4-3 win over the Nationals.

Pirates pitcher Francisco Liriano is Thursday’s Player of the Day, while three pitchers in Box-Toppers player rankings top 10 also earned Player of the Game honors Thursday.

Liriano pitched eight scoreless innings and struck out 12 in the 4-1 win over the Phillies. Liriano earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 10.1 for the season. He ranks 45th among all players and 21st among National League pitchers. He is the 46th player this season with 10.0 or more Box-Toppers points.

Cubs' Arrieta tops players for Sunday, Aug. 17; Cuddyer earns NL Batter of Day with cycle

Cubs pitcher Jake Arrieta, Sunday’s Player of the Day, becomes the 30th player this season with 10.0 or more Box-Toppers points.

Sale pitched eight scoreless innings and struck out 12 in the 3-2, 10-inning win over the Giants. (Sale did not earn the win because the Giants tied the game after he exited and the White Sox won the game in the 10th inning.) Padres' Ross tops players for Wednesday, July 2; Wainwright, Teheran bolster spots in Box-Toppers top 10

Padres pitcher Tyson Ross is Wednesday’s Player of the Day. Ross pitched a complete game shutout, allowing three hits and striking out nine in the 3-0 win over the Reds.

Mariners pitcher Chris Young is American League Player of the Day. Young struck out eight over seven innings, allowing two hits and two runs, in the 5-2 win over the Astros.

Justin Ruggiano of the Cubs is National League Batter of the Day. Ruggiano homered, went 3-for-6 and drove in five runs in the 16-9 win over the Red Sox.

Adam Jones of the Orioles is AL Batter of the Day. Jones homered and went 2-for-3, driving in three runs, in the 6-4 win over the Rangers.

Notables: Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright earned Player of the Game honors Wednesday to maintain his spot in second place in Box-Toppers player rankings. Mariners' Young, Dodgers' Ryu top players for Monday, June 16

Mariners pitcher Chris Young is Monday’s Player of the Day. Young pitched six scoreless innings and struck out six in the 5-1 win over the Padres.

Dodgers pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu is National League Player of the Day. Ryu allowed one run over six innings and struck out six in the 6-1 win over the Rockies. Tigers pitcher Anibal Sanchez, who was two outs short of a no-hitter, is Friday's Player of the Day.

Sanchez gave up only one hit—with one out in the ninth—and struck out 12 in the complete game 6-0 shutout of the Twins.
