Also Saturday, two players rise in Box-Toppers season player rankings top 10 after earning Player of the Game honors—Phillies pitcher Aaron Nola rises to sixth place and Indians pitcher Trevor Bauer rises to ninth place.
In addition, J.D. Martinez of the Red Sox extends his Box-Toppers points lead among American League batters after earning AL Batter of the Day honors.
Player of the Day—Price struck out 10 over six scoreless innings, allowing five hits and no walks, in the 5-0 win over the Orioles.
Price earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 10.4 for the season. He ranks 21st among all players and 14th among AL pitchers.
This is Price’s seventh season with 10 or more Box-Toppers points. His best season was 2015 with the Tigers and the Blue Jays when he had 21.1 Box-Toppers points, fifth among all players and second among AL pitchers. In 2017, he had 4.7 points with the Red Sox.
Price now has 121.3 career Box-Toppers points, 41st among all players since 1995, when Box-Toppers tracking began. He trails 40th-ranked player Gary Sheffield (124.1). (It should be noted Sheffield would have an estimated 155 points if his entire career from 1988 were tracked.)
National League Player of the Day—Ryan Zimmerman of the Nationals hit two home runs and went 2-for-3, scoring twice and driving in six runs, in the 9-4 win over the Cubs.
American League Batter of the Day—J.D. Martinez of the Red Sox hit two home runs, including an eighth-inning, tiebreaking, two-run shot, in the 6-4 win over the Orioles, in the second game of a doubleheader. Martinez went 2-for-2, scoring twice and driving in three runs.
Martinez earns 1.5 Box-Toppers points for being AL Batter of the Day, giving him 11.5 points for the season, extending his lead among AL batters over second-place Francisco Lindor of the Indians (7.9). Martinez ranks 17th among all players in season rankings.
National League Batter of the Day—There is no separate NL Batter of the Day for Saturday because the overall NL Player of the Day is batter Ryan Zimmerman.

About Box-Toppers—Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. In regular season games, players earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
