Nationals pitcher Andrew Alvarez is Box-Toppers Player of the Day in Sunday’s spring training games.
Other top players Sunday include Leo De Vries of the Athletics, Romeo Sanabria of the Padres, Blue Jays pitcher Kevin Gausman and Jarred Kelenic of the White Sox.
Player of the Day: Andrew Alvarez, Nationals
Alvarez struck out five over four scoreless innings, allowing one hit and no walks, in the 3-1 win over the Astros. Alvarez did not earn the win, picking up a no-decision, because the game was in a scoreless tie when he exited.
Alvarez earned 2.0 Box-Toppers points in 2025, earning Box-Toppers Player of the Game honors in his Major League debut Sept. 1. He started five games to close the season.
AL Player of the Day: Leo De Vries, Athletics
De Vries hit two home runs, including a grand slam, and went 2-for-4, scoring twice and driving in six runs, in the 11-7 win over the Dodgers.
The 19-year-old has played 193 minor league games over two seasons but has yet to make his regular-season Major League debut.
NL Batter of the Day: Romeo Sanabria, Padres
Sanabria hit a three-run homer and went 1-for-1, scoring twice and driving in three runs, in the 14-3 win over the Reds.
The 23-year-old has played 318 minor league games over four seasons but has yet to make his regular-season Major League debut.
AL Batter of the Day
There is no separate American League Batter of the Day for Sunday because the overall AL Player of the Day is batter Leo De Vries.
