Player of the Day: Freddy Fermin, Padres

Fermin hit a three-run homer, doubled and went 3-for-3, scoring three times and driving in six runs, in the 27-6 win over the Mariners.

Fermin recorded a +9.0 Box-Toppers game score, the highest by a Player of the Game winner so far this season in spring training.

Fermin earned 1.5 Box-Toppers points in 2025 with the Padres (he also played for the Royals before being traded July 31).

Langford homered and went 2-for-2, scoring once and driving in three runs, in the 15-9 win over the Royals.

He earned 2.0 Box-Toppers points in 2025, 38th among AL outfielders. This is his second Player of the Game honor of the spring; he also did it Monday in the 3-1 win over the Guardians (HR 1-2 R 2BI) when he was also AL Batter of the Day.

Matt McLain of the Reds won Box-Toppers Player of the Game honors for the second time during spring training.

McLain (HR 3-3 3R 2BI in the 14-13 win over the Dodgers) also earned Player of the Game honors Monday (2HR 2-2 3R 6BI in the 17-9 win over the Cubs), when he was overall Player of the Day.

Four players have now won Player of the Game honors twice during 2026 spring training, including two on Thursday, with McLain and Langford winning for a second time. They join two others who have won twice—Paul Goldschmidt of the Yankees and Yordany De Los Santos of the Pirates.
