Yankees pitcher Luis Gil is Box-Toppers Player of the Day in Wednesday’s spring training games while Jacob Amaya of the Diamondbacks earns National League Player of the Day.
Player of the Day: Luis Gil, Yankees
Gil struck out six over three scoreless innings, allowing two hits and two walks, in the 4-0 win over the Red Sox.
Gil earned just 1.0 Box-Toppers point in 2025 after earning 17.4 in 2024, sixth among all players, second among American League pitchers and first among AL rookies, winning AL Rookie of the Year honors. Gil was sidelined in 2025 with a right lat strain that kept him out until Aug. 3, and limited him to 11 starts.
NL Player of the Day: Jacob Amaya, Diamondbacks
Amaya homered, hit a sacrifice fly and went 2-for-2, scoring once and driving in three runs, in the 3-1 win over the Athletics.
Amaya has appeared in 64 games over the past three seasons for the White Sox, Marlins and Astros, but has yet to make his Box-Toppers debut by earning his first career Player of the Game honor.
AL and NL Batters of the Day
There is no AL Batter of the Day for Wednesday because no AL batter won Player of the Game honors in the five games completed. There is no NL Batter of the Day for Wednesday because the overall NL Player of the Day is batter Jacob Amaya.
