But the Texas Rangers, the week’s hottest team, rise to first place among American League teams, passing the Detroit Tigers.
Phillies lead
Phillies players have accumulated 119.5 Box-Toppers points in 2025, picking up 7.5 in the past week, most among National League teams.
They are now 0.6 points ahead of the second-place Rangers (118.9). They lead NL teams for the third week, ahead of the second-place NL team, the Milwaukee Brewers (108.3 points, picking up 4.0 points in the past week).
The Phillies have baseball’s second-best winning percentage (.592), behind the Brewers (.605). The Brewers are fifth overall in Box-Toppers team rankings.
The Phillies are led by pitcher Zack Wheeler (20.1 Box-Toppers points, second overall and first among NL pitchers). Wheeler, however, is out for the season with venous thoracic outlet syndrome and is set to undergo thoracic outlet decompression surgery, with recovery time expected to be six to eight months. Phillies’ top batter is Kyle Schwarber (11.0 Box-Toppers points, second among NL batters). Twenty-five different Phillies players have earned Box-Toppers points so far in 2025.
Rangers lead AL teams
Rangers have accumulated 118.9 Box-Toppers points this season, picking up 14.4 in the past week—including 6.0 in five wins and 8.4 in player signings—rising from fourth to second place overall. Their two-spot rise is also the biggest jump among all teams.
They pass the Detroit Tigers, who led AL teams for 11 straight weeks, but fall to second with 113.3 points, picking up 4.4 in the past week. The Tigers fall from second to third place overall.
The Rangers have the seventh-best winning percentage among AL teams (.524) and are in third place in the AL West, two games behind both the Houston Astros and Seattle Mariners. The Toronto Blue Jays have the best winning percentage among AL teams (.575) and are 12th in Box-Toppers team rankings with 98.2 points.
The Rangers are led by pitcher Nathan Eovaldi (14.4 Box-Toppers points, 10th overall and fourth among AL pitchers). However, Eovaldi was ruled out for the season Aug. 26 with a rotator cuff strain. Rangers’ top batter is Josh Jung (4.5 Box-Toppers points, 39th among AL batters). Thirty-one different Rangers players have earned Player of the Game honors so far this season.
The Rangers picked up 6.0 of their Box-Toppers points this week in five wins and the remaining 8.4 by signing two players:
Pitcher Cal Quantrill, who earned 6.7 points earlier this season with the Marlins.
First baseman Donovan Solano, who earned 1.7 points earlier this season with the Mariners.
Last place: Rockies
The Colorado Rockies remain in 30th and last place for the 21st straight week with 43.3 Box-Toppers points, picking up 2.0 points in the past week.
About Box-Toppers
Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. In regular season games, players earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
