Trout (HR 3-4 R 3BI in the 7-6 win over the Red Sox) last earned Player of the Game honors June 18, 2023. Trout has played in just 75 games since then—about a quarter of the Angels’ total games—as he has repeatedly battled injury. In July 2023, he fractured his left hand hamate bone fouling off a pitch, missing all but one game the rest of the season. In late April 2024, he suffered a torn left knee meniscus, missing the rest of the season. And on April 30, Trout suffered a bone bruise in his surgically repaired left knee and was out until May 30. Monday was his fourth game since returning from his most recent injured-list stint.

Trout ranks second among active AL batters in career Box-Toppers points (85.2) behind Paul Goldschmidt of the Yankees (88.0). Trout had earned Box-Toppers points in 13 consecutive seasons from 2011 to 2023, but that streak was snapped when he earned no points in 2024, playing in just 29 total games.

Debut

Brewers pitcher Abner Uribe made his Box-Toppers debut Monday with his first career Player of the Game honor.

Uribe (1IP 0H 0R 0BB 2K ND in the 3-2 win over the Reds) made his Major League debut July 8, 2023, and was playing in his 76th career game.

Scoring

  • Carpenter earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day.

  • Goodman earns 1.7 points for being NL Player of the Day.

  • All of Monday’s other Player of the Game winners (listed in the chart) earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point.

About Box-Toppers

Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. In regular season games, players earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
