Other Player of the Game winners Saturday include Twins pitcher Joe Ryan, Shea Langeliers of the Athletics, Corey Seager of the Rangers, Blue Jays closing pitcher Jeff Hoffman and Dansby Swanson of the Cubs.
Player of the Day
Kolek pitched a complete-game, five-hit shutout, striking out seven and walking two, in the 21-0 win over the Rockies.
Kolek earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 3.0 for the season, 71st among all players and 30th among National League pitchers.
When a team scores 21 runs, it is often a batter who wins Player of the Game honors. But Kolek dominated by pitching a complete game with seven strikeouts while Padres batters shared the load of scoring runs with no single batter being overwhelmingly dominant. Kolek had a +9.0 Box-Toppers game score while the highest game score by a batter was +4.0 by Fernando Tatis Jr. (HR 2-4 3R 3BI). Five Padres batters each drove in three runs, nine Padres batters each scored two or more runs and 11 of the 12 Padres batters had Box-Toppers game scores of 0.0 or better.
American League Player of the Day
Twins pitcher Joe Ryan (6IP 2H R 0BB 7K W in the 2-1 win over the Giants) earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points, giving him 4.7 for the season, 20th overall and 12th among AL pitchers.
Ryan had a +9.0 Box-Toppers game score Saturday, the same as another Player of the Game winner, Padres pitcher Stephen Kolek. But Kolek edged Ryan to win overall Player of the Day on a tiebreaker with more innings pitched—nine vs. six.
American League Batter of the Day
Shea Langeliers of the Athletics (HR 2B 4-5 R 5BI in the 11-7 win over the Yankees) earns 1.5 Box-Toppers points, giving him 2.5 for the season, eighth among AL batters.
National League Batter of the Day
Dansby Swanson of the Cubs (HR 2-3 R 2BI in the 6-5 win over the Mets) earns 1.5 Box-Toppers points, giving him 2.5 for the season, 13th among NL batters.
Rankings
Red Sox pitcher Garrett Crochet rises to second place in Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors Saturday.
Crochet (7IP 7H R BB 9K W in the 10-1 win over the Royals) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 6.4 for the season, rising from 10th to second place overall, behind Astros pitcher Hunter Brown (6.4 points). Though Brown and Crochet both have 6.4 points, Brown ranks higher because he has more 2024 points—12.0 vs. 10.7. Crochet also ranks second among AL pitchers behind Brown.
Streak
Corey Seager of the Rangers has now earned Box-Toppers points in 11 straight seasons after earning his first Player of the Game honor of 2025 Saturday.
Seager (2HR 2B 3-4 3R 3BI in the 10-3 win over the Tigers) earned his first Box-Toppers points in 2015 with the Dodgers and now has 33.2 career points, 19th among active AL batters and third among active AL shortstops, behind Carlos Correa of the Twins (40.4) and Trevor Story of the Red Sox (39.2).
Seager’s best season was 2017 with the Dodgers, when he had 7.0 points, first among NL shortstops. In 2024, he had 3.5 points with the Rangers, fifth among AL shortstops.
Seager has twice extended his consecutive season streak by earning just 1.0 point in a season: He had 1.0 point in both 2018 and 2019, both with the Dodgers.
Notable
Blue Jays closing pitcher Jeff Hoffman earned Box-Toppers Player of the Game honors for the second straight day Saturday.
Hoffman (1IP 0H 0R 0BB 3K Sv in the 6-3 win over the Mariners) was also Player of the Game Friday in the 6-3 win over the Mariners (1IP 0H 0R 0BB 3K Sv). (Same score, same opponent, same line score.)
Hoffman earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point for each of the Player of the Game honors Friday and Saturday and now has 5.0 for the season, 15th among all players, eighth among AL pitchers and first among AL closing pitchers, ahead of second-place Mason Miller of the Athletics (3.0 points).
Scoring
Kolek earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day.
Ryan earns 1.7 points for being AL Player of the Day.
Langeliers and Swanson each earn 1.5 points for being their league’s Batter of the Day.

About Box-Toppers
Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. In regular season games, players earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
