The Phillies’ winning percentage (.586) is second-highest among all 30 teams behind the Los Angeles Dodgers (.605). The Dodgers are seventh in Box-Toppers team rankings and fifth among NL teams with 113.7 points, picking up 7.5 since the last team rankings report.

The Phillies have led Box-Toppers team rankings weekly reports since April 25 and have now led 22 of the 25 weekly reports this season, missing only the first three weeks.

The Phillies are led by pitcher Zack Wheeler (21.4 points, first overall). Phillies top batter is Bryce Harper (8.7 points, sixth among NL batters). Twenty-three different Phillies players have earned Box-Toppers points in 2024.

Yankees lead AL teams

The New York Yankees lead American League teams for the third week with 120.9 Box-Toppers points, picking up 6.7 since the last report Sept. 19. They maintain their fourth-place ranking behind three NL teams—the Phillies (124.9), the Brewers (123.7) and the San Diego Padres (121.8).

The Yankees lead over the second-place AL team, the Kansas City Royals (115.1 points, picking up 4.5 in the past week, falling from fifth to sixth overall).

The Yankees have the best winning percentage among AL teams (.580), third among all teams, behind the Phillies (.586) and Dodgers (.605).

The Yankees are led by pitcher Luis Gil (17.4 points, sixth overall and second among AL pitchers). Yankees top batter is Aaron Judge (13.0 points, first among AL batters). Twenty-six different Yankees players have earned Box-Toppers points in 2024.

Hottest team: Mariners

The Seattle Mariners are hottest team of the final 10 days of the season, picking up 10.7 Box-Toppers points since the previous report Sept. 19, most of any team. The Mariners finish with 109.4 Box-Toppers points in 2024, rising from 13th to 11th place overall, their two-spot rise tied for the biggest jump in rankings among all teams.

Biggest jump: Mariners, Rays

Two teams each rose two spots since the last team rankings report Sept. 19, tied for the biggest jump among all teams:

  • The Seattle Mariners rose from 13th to 11th place overall with 109.4 points, picking up 10.7 over the final 10 days of the season.

  • The Tampa Bay Rays rose from 25th to 23rd place overall with 79.9 points, picking up 6.4 over the final 10 days of the season.

Biggest fall: Twins

The Minnesota Twins had the biggest fall in Box-Toppers team rankings this week, dropping three spots from 15th to 18th place with 93.4 points, with a net loss of 2.0 points in the final 10 days of the season. The Twins designated pitcher Cole Irvin for assignment, who earned 3.0 Box-Toppers points earlier this season with the Orioles.

One other team also had a net loss in points over the final 10 days of the season: The Pittsburgh Pirates dropped 0.5 points to 86.9 for the season, falling two spots from 19th to 21st. The Pirates designated two players for assignment in the closing days of the season—Michael A. Taylor, who earned 3.0 Box-Toppers points this season and Rowdy Tellez, who earned 2.5.

Last place: White Sox

The Chicago White Sox remain in 30th and last place for the 17th week with 36.1 Box-Toppers points, picking up 4.5 points in the past week.

Postseason teams

Eleven of the 12 teams qualifying for the postseason are among the top 13 teams in Box-Toppers team rankings for 2024. The outlier is the Detroit Tigers, the lowest-seeded AL playoff team, who rank 22nd among all teams.

Of the 15 AL teams, there are only five teams that rank lower than the Tigers in Box-Toppers rankings—the Blue Jays, Athletics, Rays, Angels and White Sox. The Tigers qualify for the playoffs ahead of these AL teams that rank ahead of them in Box-Toppers team rankings and did not make the postseason—Mariners, Red Sox, Twins and Rangers.

The New York Yankees are the top AL seed in the postseason and also the top AL team in Box-Toppers rankings. The Los Angeles Dodgers, the NL top seed, rank sixth among NL teams in Box-Toppers rankings, behind a team they finished ahead of in the NL West—the San Diego Padres (ranked third among NL teams). The Arizona Diamondbacks, ranked seventh among NL teams and ninth overall, are the highest-ranked team that did not qualify for the postseason.

The Cleveland Guardians are the second-seeded AL postseason team but rank sixth among AL teams in Box-Toppers team rankings, 13th among all teams. Though the Guardians are AL Central champions, they finished behind the Kansas City Royals in Box-Toppers rankings. The Royals rank second among AL teams in Box-Toppers points (behind the Yankees) and also second among teams in AL Central standings (behind the Guardians).

The Philadelphia Phillies are the second-seed NL postseason team but rank first overall and, as previously mentioned, have led Box-Toppers team rankings for nearly the entire season. It should be noted that last year’s top-ranked team at the end of the season, the Texas Rangers, won the World Series. This happened, even though Box-Toppers expressed skepticism at the top ranking at season’s end since the Rangers barely qualified for the playoffs and were bolstered by players acquired at midseason who earned most of their points with other teams and mostly faltered upon joining the Rangers.
