Suarez struck out seven over three scoreless innings, allowing two hits and no walks, in the 3-2 win over the Phillies.

Suarez did not earn the win, picking up a no-decision, because the Phillies tied the game after he exited. But Suarez pitched the required three innings to be considered for Player of the Game honors.

Suarez would have earned 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day if this were a regular season game. Because it’s a preseason exhibition game, no Box-Toppers points are awarded.

Suarez did not play in the Major Leagues in 2023 (playing in Korea) and so earned no points last season, but he has earned 1.0 career Box-Toppers point with the Giants in 2017.

National League Player of the Day

Mets pitcher Tylor Megill struck out six over three scoreless, hitless innings, allowing two walks, in the 5-4 win over the Yankees. Megill also picked up the win.

Megill would have earned 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being NL Player of the Day if this were a regular season game.

Megill earned 4.0 Box-Toppers points in 2023, 69th among NL pitchers.

National League Player of the Day is Mets pitcher Tylor Megill.

American League Batter of the Day

Evan Carter of the Rangers hit two home runs, including a grand slam, going 2-for-3, scoring twice and driving in five runs, in the 10-9 win over the Mariners.

Carter would have earned 1.5 Box-Toppers points for being AL Batter of the Day if this were a regular season game.

Carter earned 1.0 Box-Toppers point in 2023 with the Rangers, his only career point, playing in 23 regular season games.

American League Batter of the Day is Evan Carter of the Rangers.

National League Batter of the Day

Eugenio Suarez of the Diamondbacks hit a three-run homer and went 1-for-1, scoring twice and driving in three runs, in the 5-3 win over the Padres.

Suarez would have earned 1.5 Box-Toppers points for being NL Batter of the Day if this were a regular season game.

Suarez earned 2.5 Box-Toppers points in 2023 with the Mariners. His 44.5 career Box-Toppers points earned from 2014 to 2023 is now fourth among active NL third basemen.

National League Batter of the Day is Eugenio Suarez of the Diamondbacks.

In two of Tuesday’s games, the Player of the Game winner was a player who has yet to earn Box-Toppers Player of the Game honors in the regular season and so has 0.0 career Box-Toppers points.

Scoring

Were it a regular season day, Albert Suarez would have earned 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day and Megill would have earned 1.7 points for being NL Player of the Day. Carter and Eugenio Suarez would have each earned 1.5 points for being their league’s top batter. About Box-Toppers

Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. In regular season games, players earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.

Box-Toppers strives for accuracy. See a mistake in a post? A wrong name, wrong team, grammar error, spelling goof, etc.? Thanks for pointing it out! Contact Box-Toppers here. Let's fix it and make it right.
