Blue Jays pitcher Kevin Gausman is Wednesday’s Box-Toppers Player of the Day, rising to third place in season player rankings.

Gausman struck out 10 over six scoreless innings, allowing three hits and three walks, in the 6-1 win over the Yankees.

Gausman earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 18.7 for the season, rising from  sixth to third in Box-Toppers season player rankings, behind Braves pitcher Spencer Strider (21.1) and Angels pitcher Shohei Ohtani (19.4).

Gausman ranks second among American League pitchers behind Ohtani. However, Gausman has the most 2023 Box-Toppers points earned solely as an AL pitcher. Half of Ohtani’s points (9.7) were earned as a pitcher and the other half (9.7) were earned as a designated hitter.

National League Player of the Day is Lane Thomas of the Nationals.

National League Player of the Day

Lane Thomas of the Nationals hit a grand slam and went 1-for-2, scoring twice and driving in four runs, in the 13-3 win over the White Sox.

Thomas earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being NL Player of the Day, giving him 3.7 for the season, 60th among NL batters.

American League Batter of the Day is Brandon Drury of the Angels.

Brandon Drury of the Angels hit two home runs, including a three-run shot, in the 8-3 win over the Rays. Drury went 3-for-5, scoring twice and driving in five runs.

Drury earns 1.5 Box-Toppers points for being AL Batter of the Day, giving him 5.5 for the season, 24th among AL batters.

National League Batter of the Day

There is no separate NL Batter of the Day for Wednesday because the overall NL Player of the Day is batter Lane Thomas.

Phillies pitcher Aaron Nola is Box-Toppers Player of the Game in Wednesday’s win over the Braves.

Nola reaches 100 career points

Phillies pitcher Aaron Nola became the 90th player to reach 100 career Box-Toppers points since player tracking began in 1995 after earning Player of the Game honors Wednesday.

Nola (6IP 6H 2R 0BB 8K ND in the 6-5, 10-inning win over the Braves) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 100.7 career points, 86th among all players since Box-Toppers tracking began in 1995. With his 1.0 point, he passes five players on Box-Toppers’ “all-time” career points list—Jim Edmonds (99.8), Larry Walker (100.1), Jeff Bagwell (100.4), Paul Konerko (100.7) and Matt Cain (100.7). (Nola ranks ahead of Konerko and Cain because he has more 2023 points than those retired players.) Nola now trails 85th-ranked player Matt Holliday (100.8).

Nola now ranks 17th among active players in career points, ninth among active NL pitchers.

Nola is the second player to reach 100 career points in 2023 after Braves pitcher Charlie Morton did it Aug. 16. Morton was the first player to reach 100 points in more than two years and now has 104.1 career points, 78th-most since 1995.

Nola now has 11.0 Box-Toppers points in 2023, 28th among all players and 14th among NL pitchers.

Diamondbacks pitcher Merrill Kelly is Box-Toppers Player of the Game in Wednesday’s win over the Giants.
