The Tampa Bay Rays maintain their lead in Box-Toppers team rankings for the 12th straight week.

Here are Box-Toppers 2023 team rankings through games of Thursday, June 22. The column BTP shows the number of Box-Toppers points players on the team accumulated this season. The column BTP/wk shows have many points teams accumulated from June 16 to June 22 . The column Wk ago shows the team's rank on June 15.

Meanwhile, the Arizona Diamondbacks maintain their lead among National League teams and the San Francisco Giants are the week’s hottest team.

Rays lead American League teams

Rays players have accumulated 64.5 Box-Toppers points this season, picking up 3.0 points in the past week. They lead over the second-place Texas Rangers (59.1) by 5.4 points and over the NL-leading Diamondbacks (55.9) by 8.6 points.

The Rays have baseball’s best winning percentage (0.667) and are led by pitcher Shane McClanahan (9.7 Box-Toppers points, fourth among all players and third among AL pitchers). Rays’ top batter is Isaac Paredes (6.2 points, third among AL batters). There are 20 different Rays players who have earned Box-Toppers points so far in 2023.

Diamondbacks lead National League teams

The Diamondbacks lead NL teams for the third week with 55.9 Box-Toppers points, picking up 5.7 points in the past week, rising from fourth to third place among all teams.

The Diamondbacks have the second-best winning percentage among NL teams (0.605), behind the Atlanta Braves (0.649), who are fourth overall in team rankings with 55.2 Box-Toppers points, just 0.7 points behind the Diamondbacks.

The Diamondbacks are led by pitcher Zac Gallen (9.7 points), third overall and first among NL pitchers. Top batter is Evan Longoria (2.7 points), 28th among NL batters. There are 23 different Diamondbacks players who have earned Box-Toppers points so far in 2023.

Hottest team: Giants

The San Francisco Giants are the week’s hottest team, picking up 7.0 Box-Toppers points in the past week, most of any team, rising from 15th to 10th place overall with 47.4 points.

Biggest jump: Giants and Reds

The San Francisco Giants and Cincinnati Reds both had a five-spot rise in Box-Toppers team rankings this week, tied for the biggest jump among all teams. The Giants rise from 15th to 10th place overall with 47.4 points, picking up 7.0 points in the past week. The Reds rise from 21st to 16th with 44.9 points, picking up 6.5 in the past week.

Biggest decline: Pirates

The Pittsburgh Pirates had the biggest decline among all teams in the past week, falling eight spots from 12th to 20th place with 42.8 points, picking up no points in the past week. The Pirates got off to a hot start in 2023 and were ranked second overall on April 27 but have fallen 18 spots in the eight weeks since.

Last place: Athletics

The Oakland Athletics returned to 30th and last place in Box-Toppers team rankings, falling from 29th place last week. The Athletics have 21.5 Box-Toppers points, earning no points in the past week. They ranked last for eight of the past nine weeks. Last week’s last-place team, the Kansas City Royals, rise to 29th place with 22.5 points, picking up 3.5 points in the past week.

Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. Players earn Box-Toppers points for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
