Yankees top Box-Toppers team rankings for 5th week, Dodgers lead NL teams

The New York Yankees lead Box-Toppers weekly team rankings report for the fifth straight week.

Here are Box-Toppers 2022 team rankings through games of Thursday, July 7. The column BTP shows the number of Box-Toppers points players on the team accumulated this season. The column BTP/wk shows have many points teams accumulated from July 1 to 7. The column Wk ago shows the team's rank on June 30.

Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Dodgers, the week’s hottest team, rise to lead National League teams.

Yankees players have accumulated 76.6 Box-Toppers points, picking up 4.5 in the past week. They lead AL teams in Box-Toppers points for the ninth straight week and have baseball’s best winning percentage (.723).

The Yankees are led by pitcher Gerrit Cole (10.4 Box-Toppers points, eighth among all players and fifth among AL pitchers). The Yankees top batter is Aaron Judge (6.5 Box-Toppers points, third among AL batters). There are 22 different Yankees players who have earned Player of the Game honors so far in 2022.

The Dodgers rise to lead NL teams with 65.9 Box-Toppers points, picking up 8.2 points in the past week, most among all teams. The Dodgers rise from fourth to second place overall and pass last week’s top NL team, the Milwaukee Brewers, who fall from third to fourth overall, second among NL teams, with 63.3 points, picking up 4.9 points in the past week. The Dodgers have the best winning percentage among NL teams (.646).

The Dodgers are led by pitcher Tony Gonsolin (8.7 Box-Toppers points, 16th among all players and seventh among NL pitchers). The Dodgers top batter is Mookie Betts (8.0 Box-Toppers points, second among NL batters). There are 19 different Dodgers players who have earned Player of the Game honors so far in 2022.

The Tampa Bay Rays made the biggest jump in Box-Toppers team rankings, rising six spots from 15th to ninth place with 53.9 Box-Toppers points, picking up 6.2 in the past week.

The Boston Red Sox had the biggest decline in team rankings, falling four spots from ninth to 13th place with 52.1 points, picking up 1.0 point in the past week.

The Oakland Athletics rank in 30th and last place in Box-Toppers team rankings for the fifth straight week with 28.5 points, picking up 3.0 points in the past week.

Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. Players earn Box-Toppers points for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
