Chicago White Sox, week’s hottest team, lead Box-Toppers team rankings for 2nd week

The Chicago White Sox lead Box-Toppers weekly team rankings report for the second straight week and are the hottest team of the past week.

Meanwhile, the St. Louis Cardinals rise to lead National League teams.

Here are Box-Toppers 2021 team rankings, through the games of Thursday, May 13. The column BTP shows the number of Box-Toppers points players on the team accumulated this season. The column BTP/wk shows have many points teams accumulated from May 7 to May 13. The column Wk ago shows the team's rank as of May 6.

White Sox players have accumulated 30.9 Box-Toppers points this season, picking up 7.7 points in the past week, most among all teams. The White Sox also have baseball’s best winning percentage (.629).

The White Sox are led by pitcher Carlos Rodon with 5.0 Box-Toppers points, who ranks 13th overall and fourth among American League pitchers. Jose Abreu leads White Sox batters with 4.0 Box-Toppers points, second among AL batters. Eleven different White Sox players have earned Box-Toppers points so far in 2021.

The Cardinals rise to lead NL teams with 26.7 Box-Toppers points, picking up 6.5 in the past week, rising from 11th place to third overall, behind both the White Sox and the New York Yankees (27.5). The Cardinals have the NL’s second-best winning percentage (.605), behind the San Francisco Giants (.622). The Giants are 13th in Box-Toppers team rankings with 23.5 points, sixth among all NL teams.

The Cardinals pass last week’s top NL team, the Philadelphia Phillies, who fall from second overall last week to ninth overall with 25.8 Box-Toppers points, picking up 3.0 points in the past week. The Phillies’ seven-spot drop in team rankings is the biggest decline among all teams this week.

The Cardinals are led by pitcher Jack Flaherty, who has 5.0 Box-Toppers points and ranks 11th overall and seventh among NL pitchers. Nolan Arenado is the Cardinal’s top batter with 2.5 Box-Toppers points, fourth among NL batters. So far this season, 13 different Cardinals players have earned Box-Toppers points.

The New York Mets rose nine spots in Box-Toppers team rankings, the biggest climb of any team this week in team rankings. The Mets rose from 26th place to 17th place with 20.5 Box-Toppers points, picking up 5.0 in the past week.

The Detroit Tigers maintain 30th and last place in team rankings for the third straight week with 14.2 Box-Toppers points, picking up 4.0 points in the past week.

Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. In regular season games, players earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.

Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. Players earn Box-Toppers points for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
