Also Sunday, Indians pitcher Shane Bieber rises to sixth place in Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors.

Player of the Day—Verlander struck out 10 over six innings, allowing one run, three hits and two walks, in the 3-1 win over the Mariners.

Verlander earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 20.8 for the season, extending his lead over second-place player, teammate Gerrit Cole (17.1). Verlander also leads American League pitchers ahead of Cole.

Verlander now has 198.9 career Box-Toppers points, rising to sixth place among all players since 1995, when Box-Toppers tracking began. With his points Sunday, he passes Albert Pujols of the Angels (198.8) on the “all-time” list and now trails fifth-place player, teammate Zack Greinke (202.4). National League Player of the Day—Cubs pitcher Yu Darvish struck out eight over five innings, allowing one run, five hits and no walks, in the 7-2 win over the Brewers.
