Marlins pitcher Eury Pérez is Sunday’s Box-Toppers Player of the Day, pitching seven perfect innings before the bullpen surrendered eight runs, turning a blowout into a 9-8 nail-biter.

Pérez retired all 21 batters he faced, striking out eight over seven innings, in the 9-8 win over the Athletics. He was pulled after 92 pitches as he was making his third start off the injured list due to a leg strain.
Reliever Lake Bachar entered in the eighth inning and gave up a walk to his first batter, a single to his second batter and a double and a run to his third batter, quickly erasing bids for a combined perfect game, no-hitter and shutout. Bachar (0IP 4H 5R 2BB 0K ND) did not record an out, facing six batters.
Michael Petersen finished the eighth inning (1IP 0H 0R 0BB K ND) and Pete Fairbanks pitched the ninth inning (1IP 3H 3R 2ER BB K ND), managing to hold off the Athletics, who had the tying run at first base when he recorded the final out.
Pérez earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 6.4 for the season, 39th among all players and 16th among National League pitchers.
AL Player of the Day: Joe Ryan, Twins
Ryan struck out nine over seven scoreless innings, allowing three hits and one walk, in the 6-1 win over the Yankees.

Greene earns 1.5 Box-Toppers points as AL Batter of the Day, giving him 5.0 for the season, 61st among all players and third among AL batters, behind Nick Kurtz of the Athletics (7.0) and Yordan Alvarez of the Astros (6.5).
