Rankings: Shohei Ohtani, Dodgers

Ohtani climbs from fifth to third place in Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors Monday.

Ohtani (HR 2-5 R 3BI in the 9-4 win over the Athletics) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 12.7 for the season. He trails Brewers pitcher Jacob Misiorowski (14.0 points) and Phillies pitcher Cristopher Sánchez (13.7 points).

This was Ohtani’s 11th Player of the Game honor of 2026 and his fourth as a designated hitter; the other seven have come as a starting pitcher. Because he has more than 25 percent of his Player of the Game honors as a batter (36.4 percent) and a pitcher (63.6 percent), he qualifies to rank at both positions with his full 12.7 Box-Toppers point total.

Monday’s Sidelights Sidebar

Box-Toppers review of the day’s top pitchers, overlooked top performers & lowest B-T game scores:

Neither Ashcraft nor Nola wins top player honors in Monday’s top B‑T pitching matchup

As a result, he ranks third among NL pitchers (behind Misiorowski and Sánchez) and extends his lead among NL batters, ahead of Sal Stewart of the Reds (7.0 points). However, separately, his 8.7 points as a pitcher would rank ninth among NL pitchers and his 4.0 points as a designated hitter would rank 17th among NL batters.

Ohtani now has 103.9 career Box-Toppers points, rising to 86th place among all players since Box-Toppers tracking began in 1995. With his 1.0 point Monday, he passes Rangers pitcher Nathan Eovaldi (103.4) on the “all-time” career points list. Ohtani now trails 85th-ranked player Jamie Moyer (104.0). (Moyer would have an estimated 128 career points if his entire career from 1989 were tracked.)

Passing Eovaldi, Ohtani now ranks 14th among active, signed players in career points, seventh among active NL pitchers and first among active NL batters, ahead of teammate Freddie Freeman (97.9).

Ohtani has earned more of his 103.9 career points as a pitcher (56.2, 54.1%) than as a batter (47.7, 45.9%).

Scoring

  • Mize earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points as Player of the Day.

  • Rodríguez earns 1.7 points as NL Player of the Day.

  • Young earns 1.5 points as AL Batter of the Day.

  • All of Monday’s other Player of the Game winners (listed in the chart) earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point.
