Also Tuesday, two players rise in Box-Toppers’ season player rankings top 10 list after both earned Player of the Game honors—Athletics pitcher Jeffrey Springs rises to fourth place and Dodgers pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto rises to fifth place.

Other Player of the Game winners Tuesday include Ben Williamson of the Rays and Dominic Smith of the Braves.

Player of the Day: Mick Abel, Twins

Abel struck out 10 over seven scoreless innings, allowing four hits and no walks, in the 6-0 win over the Red Sox.

Abel earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 3.0 for the season, 13th in season player rankings and seventh among American League pitchers.

NL Player of the Day: Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Dodgers

Yamamoto struck out seven over 7 2/3 innings, allowing one run, four hits and one walk, in the 2-1 win over the Mets. Yamamoto did not earn the win, picking up a no-decision, because the game was tied when he exited.

Yamamoto earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being NL Player of the Day, giving him 3.7 for the season, rising to fifth in season player rankings and first among National League pitchers, passing previous leader, Braxton Ashcraft of the Pirates. Though Yamamoto and Ashcraft both have 3.7 points on the season, Yamamoto ranks higher on a tiebreaker with more 2025 points—17.7 vs. 4.7.

AL Batter of the Day: Ben Williamson, Rays

Williamson hit two doubles, a sacrifice bunt and went 2-for-3, scoring twice and driving in three runs, in the 8-5 win over the White Sox.

This was Williamson’s Box-Toppers debut, his first career Player of the Game honor. Williamson made his Major League debut April 15, 2025, and was playing in his 100th career game.

NL Batter of the Day: Dominic Smith, Braves

Smith doubled and went 3-for-4, driving in four runs, in the 6-5 win over the Marlins.

Smith earns 1.5 Box-Toppers points for being NL Batter of the Day, giving him 2.5 for the season, third among NL batters.

Springs rises from ninth to fourth place in Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors Tuesday.

Springs (6.1IP 3H R 2BB 5K W in the 2-1 win over the Rangers) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 4.0 for the season. He ranks fourth among AL pitchers.

JJ Wetherholt of the Cardinals made his Box-Toppers debut Tuesday with his first career Player of the Game honor.
